Fall in the Countryside
Just another day in northern Germany

As the days are getting shorter, so is our time here in northern Germany. Watching the leaves fall onto the ground I’m trying to take in the last bit of the beauty in the countryside. Soon we’ll be changing locations again but before you ask, not even we know yet where to go next.
In the meantime, I invite you to walk with me on a beautiful day in the fall. It was a sunny and warm day but since David was feeling sick, it was just me and my camera.
I stopped first at one of the huge flower fields not far from our home. The sunflowers are now blooming in full glory and even other blossoms in between shine in their brightest colors.
It was a joy looking across the fields.

I drove 10 more minutes eastward toward the village of Linum which is known for the migratory cranes in the fall. I passed countless trees lined on the road that created a beautiful sight as their leaves were turning colors.
Some leaves are fallen into the canals surrounding the villages and I captured how they were gently floating atop the water.

The wind was blowing and reeds were moving with the gusts.

The sky was blue but losing its strength already.

A herd of cattle grazing on the fields didn’t get disturbed by the feathered visitors. Two gray herons were walking through the pasture looking out for bugs to feed on.

I followed the canal to the bird-watching point.

An elder man sitting on the bench was telling me I took out my film too early. He was surely referring to the arrival of the cranes that takes place every evening down here. But I wasn’t here for the cranes. Not exclusively at least.
I was out for a walk to breathe in the fresh air, embrace fall’s fallen leaves and watch the farm animals on the fields. And of course, to take photographs of everything moving and not moving in front of me.
Another man on a bicycle was coming toward me. His dog, off the leash, didn’t care about me and simply walked around me. I greeted the man and received back a smile.

The next person passing me was another local. This one on his bike didn’t look nearly as friendly and had no intention of greeting me back even though he wasn’t driving fast.

I’m heading further looking onto the horizon. Some farmhouses are shining against the now white backdrop.

What would be fall without mushrooms?
Right, here they are. Growing on an old tree stump.

I’m back where I started. Just once more I climb up the raised hide to overlook the lake. A few great egrets are to be seen in the water next to other smaller birds.
The trees on the lakeshore are no more to be described in lush green. Colorful, that’s what they are.

I hope you enjoyed this walk with me. Maybe I’ll manage one more before we’re leaving this place. We have less than a week left. Then the season and our work here are done.
