Fall in California

The season of wildfires.

Photo by David Tovar on Unsplash

when the mountains above us begin to blacken, my family & I sit on our front porch to watch the smoke. we’ll sit outside with our t-shirt collars pulled over our mouths & sit in silence. Licks of fire chew through acres of trees like teeth on an orange creamsicle. the heavy timber, tall grass, & chaparral becomes dust & rains down to blanket the valley

in a layer of gray snow.
