Facing the Fear of Running Out of Writing Ideas
Reflections on endless writing topics
Do you ever think I am going to run out of things to write about?
My wife was skimming through my blog and she said,
“How do you come up with the ideas? Surely you’re going to run out of things to write about”
I automatically responded that there are loads of things to write about.
After this short conversation, I suddenly had a bit of an “Oh crap” moment.
Are there really loads of things to write about?
My main niche is how to write and writing related topics. This is something that I am passionate about. But can I keep writing about writing? There are only so many subjects, right?
Luckily writing is a pretty big topic. Just off the top of my head I can think of rather a lot to write about:
Formatting, planning, Point of View, marketing, blogging, E-books, self-publishing, traditional publishing, article writing, short stories, novels, flash fiction, genres, How-to guides, character development, world building and so many others.
And I am sure you can do the same with whatever niche you write in, if you take a few minutes to sit and think about related topics and ideas.
Don’t panic!
So this was my little panic over! I thought about what else I was going to do. And I started writing this post!
Yes, this is exactly how I come up with ideas, someone says something, I read an article or watch a TV show and something just clicks in my head.
My writing ventures
I have experience with blogging, article writing, eBooks, self-publishing, short stories, novellas, fiction, and nonfiction. But there are a lot more things I could do and I will do in the future.
I’ve written eBooks on playing poker, trading and investing, how to write erotica, along with professional content such as how to teach English as a second language.
Current and future projects
I didn’t write very much in February because it was the Chinese New Year and a long holiday here! So I couldn’t get much done with both my kids and wife at home demanding my attention.
(Another post on the effects that had on my earnings and reads is coming)
However, I did start writing possibly a novel which I am thinking about trying to get traditionally published. Once I finish writing the book, I will post the first chapter. Be warned, it is a Western story based around 1870. I know this isn’t the most popular genre, but I had the story idea and wanted to go with it. Also, I love Westerns! And Red Dead Redemption II is probably my favorite game ever.
Thanks for reading.
I really do love hearing about other people’s plans, and successes, so please don’t be shy in the comments.
Paul
