Purpose of the Story

After providing a brief background on my long experience with Twitter, I introduce recent updates on the acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk and interpret his recent tweets from the Chief Twit account.

My Thoughts and Mixed Feelings About Twitter

I have been on Twitter since its inception. I was addicted to it in my first year but fixed the addiction problem after seeing side effects. Since then, I have used it cautiously.

Even though I loved the platform, seeing it as a mini writing outlet, I have mixed feelings about it. My feelings turned into a love-and-hate relationship after 2020. However, the platform is unique and innovative, creating serendipity.

Nevertheless, the way it is being administrated creates unnecessary stress for users. Therefore, I use it hesitantly, thinking they might ban my account anytime for no reason due to immature AI mistakes and waste my efforts. In other words, I don’t feel at home on Twitter as I do on Medium.

For example, my account was suspended twice. Once due to security attacks, I accidentally clicked on a link in a private message as a trap. Even though I approached the support team multiple times, they never got back to me, so I lost the followers I had gained over a decade.

The second time, Twitter suspended my new account accidentally, which is 100% compliant with platform rules verified with my business phone and email address. I only amplify stories published on Medium.com, mainly from my publications.

Fortunately, the Twitter admin team realized the mistake and apologized, which meant a lot to me. Twitter should be grateful for contributors like me as we provide free and quality information published on Medium.

Twitter readers can access articles published on Medium without a paywall which is an excellent privilege for their members. As far as I know, Medium, publications, and writers don’t earn a cent offered to Twitter readers. I believe this generosity is the legacy of Mr. Ev Williams, who is one of the co-founders of Twitter.

I am grateful to Twitter as I met multiple influencers and thought leaders. Some of them became lifetime friends. Some of them joined my writing community and became a mentor to my proteges and me.

Some people spend a lot of time building their audience. However, after a while, they see their followers as a vanity matrix on Twitter. I recently read a story of a writer (Gareth Willey) who gained 120K followers but quit Twitter, as he explained in this interesting story.

Elon Musk seems to reinvent or redesign Twitter, taking it on a new journey.

I am inspired to write this post after seeing some interesting tweets from Elon Musk on Twitter. I have been following his account for a while and enjoying his thought-provoking and inspiring tweets.

He has around 112 million followers on Twitter. However, he only follows 122 accounts. Some are celebrities on Twitter. In addition to promoting his business, he also posts engaging content daily.

I want to give you a quick taste of his recent tweets reflecting his thoughts and sentiments. Some are interesting, and some are insightful and thought-provoking.

Mr. Musk has branded himself as the “chief twit” on Twitter after the acquisition was formally completed recently. It was a 44-billion-dollar investment that he made to be the biggest shareholder of the platform.

Elon Musk keeps tweeting, inspiring, engaging, and informing the public with microblogs. He has philanthropic perspectives, but he also seems to make Twitter a business platform generating income for his organization.

Yesterday, my social media feed was full of news about Elon Musk’s plans for Twitter. The most important one, as mentioned in Fox News, was that:

Elon Musk fired three senior executives, namely Parag Agrawal (former CEO), Ned Segal (former CFO), and Vijaya Gadde (former chief legal counsel).

There was not much information about the reasons and plans. However, some journalists interpret that Mr. Musk wants to start Twitter as a clean slate bringing a new culture.

When someone asked in a tweet whether we considered being a chief executive officer. Today Mr. Musk replied, “My title is Chief Twit right there in the bio. No idea who the CEO is.”

Some of his tweets give clues about the future of Twitter. For example, one tweet said, “The bird is freed.” Another tweet said, “Comedy is now legal on Twitter.” He added, “Finally, the truth that carbs are amazing can be said on this platform! #freespeech.”

Even though I am carb-intolerant, I liked his tweet about carbs. I hope I can write tweets like “healthy fats are amazing” on Twitter, not fearing people will attack me and blame healthy fats as the cause of heart attacks. I one day want to say that the old Cholesterol theory is dead.

It sounds like the future of Twitter is bright for those who work as freelance journalists. For example, one of his recent tweets says, “A beautiful thing about Twitter is how it empowers citizen journalism — people are able to disseminate news without an establishment bias.”

In terms of the recent acquisition, Mr. Musk confirmed by saying, “To be super clear, we have not yet made any changes to Twitter’s content moderation policies.”

His recent philosophical tweet inspired me: “I know |nothing| is forever.” Then he posted two more interesting tweets under his “Chief Twit” account. First, he said, “I will not let you down, no matter what it takes.”

He sometimes asks fascinating questions such as, “What lesson took you the longest to unlearn?” I enjoy reading responses to his wise and enticing prompts.

Then the next interesting one was a thread. He said, “The comments in this thread are a conspiracy theorist’s wet dream.” The thread is full of humorous and insightful comments from his followers.

My favorite tweet yesterday was, “Think about who might have decided -The Current Thing- before accepting it. Maybe it was a social media algorithm, not even people. Who decides -The Current Thing?- Real question. I don’t know.”

The last tweet I read from him was, “Did you hear about the dyslexic KBG agent — it’s pot secret!” I couldn’t make sense of this one yet. I will check the thread and try to understand what he refers to.

Conclusions and Takeaways

From social media news and YouTube videos, I understand that “Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with widely diverse viewpoints.”

As Mr. Musk confirms, “No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes.”

In a YouTube video, I have seen him on Twitter’s headquarters with a big grin and carrying a porcelain sink. After that, he tweeted, “let that sink in.” I understand that he will be making radical changes.

Some journalists assert that Mr. Musk might remove the ban on Donald Trump from joining Twitter. Mr. Trump’s ban created mixed thoughts and feelings on social media, with some thinking it was fair and some unfair.

According to this source, “Mr. Trump has said he won’t return to the platform. He has instead launched his own social media app, Truth Social.”

Even though I see many benefits of social media and have been enthusiastic about using numerous platforms since their inception, I use it carefully and take occasional social media fast to maintain my sanity.

One of my biggest concerns is the addiction risk of social media. It seems to have similar effects to drugs, sugar, sex, or other addictive behaviors in the brain. Constant dopamine spikes raise the threshold of ΔFosB.

Even though experienced people can handle the information through years of content consumption skills, young people whose knowledge base is not mature enough risk gaining misinformation as the platform is not moderated.

So my point is anyone can write about anything, which is acceptable but harmful content might lead to serious concerns for those who cannot filter the enormous amount of information.

My biggest concern on social media is the rising financial scams and cybercrimes by hackers. I documented my thoughts in a recent story titled 108.9 Million Accounts Were Hacked in 2022’s 3rd Quarter, with a 70% Increase.

Another big issue on social media is fake accounts, especially those created by bots. To this end, former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal informed in a tweet:

“We suspend over half a million spam accounts every day, usually before any of you even see them on Twitter. We also lock millions of accounts each week that we suspect may be spam — if they can’t pass human verification challenges (captchas or phone verification).”

Now back to Elon Musk to conclude my story.

Some people love Mr. Musk, and some dislike him. We cannot expect everyone to like a person. However, I got concerned when people delve into her personal life too much, discarding his vision and mission for humanity, as I articulated in a story titled What Are the Points of Dislikes Against Elon Musk?

For me, his ideas and actions for society are noteworthy. I hope Elon Musk might make Twitter a platform with well-curated content for the new generation without compromising free speech.

Many followers believe that Mr. Musk will unlock the Twitter jail and make it a valuable platform for society. The sentiments look promising. Time will show the results.

If you want a bit of a chuckle, you might check his recent tweet about how Twitter treats Elon as its new boss. The immature AI tries to micromanage mighty Musk!

Then a person asked in the thread, “Elon, what’s the one thing that’s most messed up at Twitter right now?”. He replied quickly, “There seem to be 10 people “managing” every one person coding.”

Finally, one of the funniest tweets from a person asking Mr. Musk, “for the love of god, please buy Facebook also,” with an exaggerated cartoon character. Then I replied, enunciating, “Please buy Medium as well!”

Twitter has remarkable potential. For example, it might be an excellent financial platform if it is integrated with blockchain. I am also optimistic about the future of Twitter. How about you?

Thank you for reading my perspectives. I wish you a healthy and happy life.
