Summary

Ed Sheeran is facing legal accusations of plagiarism for both his music and his image, with the public and a former TV figure claiming similarities to Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" and a 1975 ABC network character, respectively.

Abstract

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran is currently embroiled in a court case where he is accused of copying the melody of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" for his hit song "Thinking Out Loud." Additionally, he is being criticized for allegedly stealing his image from a lesser-known television character who first appeared on the ABC network in 1975. Despite the public's perception of pop music homogeneity, the similarities have raised questions of plagiarism. Sheeran's silence on the image controversy and his previous partnership with Heinz ketchup, which sparked similar allegations, have further fueled the debate. The article also humorously notes the Muppet character Animal's reaction to the situation, suggesting a lawsuit against Sheeran, and includes a satirical statement from Sheeran addressing the theft accusations in a musical format.

Opinions

  • The public is skeptical about the originality of pop songs, noting the difficulty in distinguishing between them over the past twenty years.
  • The lawyer representing the former ABC star argues that the resemblance between Sheeran and the 1975 TV character is a clear case of plagiarism, beyond mere coincidence.
  • Sheeran's refusal to comment on the image controversy suggests a conscious decision to avoid addressing the accusations publicly.
  • The article's author playfully implies that Sheeran's partnership with Heinz and his spontaneous slogan creation may not be as original as they appear.
  • The Muppet character Animal's response to the controversy, while comedic, underscores the perception of Sheeran's image as derivative.
  • The satirical statement from Sheeran, crafted in the style of a song, trivializes the seriousness of the plagiarism accusations and suggests a light-hearted view of the legal proceedings.

Big Scandal News

Ed Sheeran Accused of Theft. Again.

“If I had done what you’re accusing me of doing, I’d be quite an idiot”

Ed Sheeran is in hot water again this week.

The popular British singer/songwriter is testifying in court, after he was accused of stealing the melody to Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On in his 2015 hit Thinking Out Loud.

A striking similarity, but one that the public seems willing to overlook, seeing as how it is nearly impossible to distinguish between any of the major pop songs written over the last twenty years.

In an even more disturbing revelation, Big Scandal News has learned that Sheeran is now being accused of stealing his very image from a lesser known television figure who first appeared on the ABC network in 1975, a full sixteen years before the British sensation was born.

“People don’t think it’s a big deal. They say ‘There’s all kinds of gingers out there. They’re just born that way.’ Well it goes WAY beyond that,’ the lawyer acquired by the former ABC star said.

“All you have to do is look at a picture of the two side by side, and anyone can see that this is blatant plagiarism.”

While Sheeran has embraced certain similarities between his looks and that of already existing products (the pop star partnered with Heinz ketchup in 2019), the accusations from the Animal estate have so far been met with silence.

After acquiring the deal with Heinz, Mr Sheeran enthusisatically quipped ‘I put that shit on everything!’ claiming he had just spontaneously come up with that slogan and had no knowledge of its widespread use by the makers of Frank’s Red Hot. When asked by BS News whether or not Animal intends to sue Mr. Sheeran, the Muppet responded “Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah.” When asked how much money he would sue the extremely successful musician for, Animal enthusiastically bellowed “FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE.”

Although Mr. Sheeran refused to comment about the fashion controversy as he left the courthouse, he did read out a prepared statement addressing accusations of theft from the heirs to Marvin Gaye’s estate.

I’ve been really tryin’, baby Tryin’ to find some new words, to this old song And if you feel, that I steal baby Well come on, Oh! Come on

Just move on Ah baby, just move on You don’t have to worry that it’s wrong If the spirit moves ya Then it behoves ya, To have the case thrown out Oooo oooo oooo

There’s nothing wrong, with me Copying you! No no baby Givin’ your melody to me, can never be wrong If it gets a billion views
