Earth’s Final Hour

Because even superheroes have a breaking point

Adapted by author from images purchased on Depoist Photos — copyright owned by author

This poem first appeared in the 2018 book of poetry, ‘Love, Life, and Evisceration’ by Porle Joen (also me). Recreated (with edits) here for Queerly Trans’ Quintessentials writer’s showcase writing prompt.

If only I could find a way do get us through another day; I don’t know how, I don’t know why, but I know it’s time to fly.

I’m sorry that you cannot come, instead, you’ll plummet into the sun. Sorry that I cannot save you from this fate that’s overdue.

I’ve fought for you and saved the world so damn many times before, but this time, well, you’re on your own ‘cause not once, have you ever shown

a true desire to save yourselves. Now you gather around church bells to prayer to a character from a story to take you now into their glory.

Man-up chap, stop crying chick; you chose this fate. You make me sick. So, fuck you all, burn like toast. This superhero will watch you roast.
