Tools — Chrome Medium Earnings extension
Major Eyecandy Update
And a tiny new feature for your analysis pleasure
Important note:
I made an error in the code that makes you redirect to the wrong version of the current release. Read the release notes for version Vista (1.4) of the Earnings extension here:
Warning, see correct story above
Below here is the old update to Earnings 1.3.0.
I keep on telling myself that the updates should be smaller and more often. This time, it’s not just words. I am doing it!
So, what’s new?
- Yearly earnings (🎁 new)
- A brand new popup-menu(🧬 improved)
- Better looking buttons (🧬 improved)
- Some technical stuff(💉 booster-shot)
- Correct legend for the graph (🩹 bugfix)
Read on to see these things in action.

1.3.1 is now live as well. Click here to see the minor fixes.
Dressed to Kill
There’s no way you can miss this one if you use the popup to access your earnings. In fact, it’s so hard to miss, I might as well not mention it. The thing is… I am pretty proud of myself to pull this mighty feat of CSS-magickery off.

I wanted to get rid of the text in the popup. As you can see in the screenshot above, this operation was a success.
The buttons on the main page itself also got a revamp. They’re not as stylish as the popup, though.
I actually have a story planned about the new interaction regarding this popup. I’d love to hear from you regarding colours, interaction, general awesomeness or lack thereof.
At some point in time, I want to settle on just one colour scheme that fits the popup, the graphs and the buttons. For now, I like how it looks a lot better than the previous versions.
Yearly Earnings
It was there, but it didn’t work correctly. It also only showed you last year’s results. The new overview now shows you everything you wanted to know about each year.
Want a screenshot? That means I have to expose my meager earnings yet again. Well, here goes:

Quite nice, isn’t it? Due to Anthony Lawrence (Pcunix)’s work, we’ve been able to test this release both on Windows and on Apple. I am not entirely convinced it looks good on every system, though. Let me know if you experience problems!
Oh, see that ‘$/second’? Last release I had accidentally named it $/view. Small fix, a lot less confusion, I hope.
Technical Stuff That Matters
There has been some maintenance here. The duct tape is removed at some points and replaced with a more sustainable solution. Also, some improvements to the code have been done. I am finally able to do what I want in very little time.
Actually, most of the functionality was done in under an hour or two. I spend most of this release fiddling with making things look prettier. So, that’s mentionable progress, isn’t it?
1.3.0 — Everest Still Going Strong
For those keeping track, the previous version was 1.2.0. This new release carries 1.3.0 as its version. I am keeping the name ‘Everest’ as this is how I had wanted to release 1.2.0.
Come to think of it. I didn’t make any dad jokes so far, did I? Please don’t spare me in the comments on how such a boring update is better than my usual cringe-worthy puns.
Downloading / installing / updating
Installing is as easy as pie. Just head over to the Chrome Webstore and click ‘Add to Chrome’. Future updates will be downloaded automatically.
Download the extension from the chrome webstore:
Want to buy me a coffee? I am not stopping you: patreon / buymeacoffee.
Also, I have been told that ratings on the chrome store matter. If you have a few minutes to spare, I’d appreciate a review there. Just the link above to go to the webstore.
Note that I have another Medium extension that unravels the mysteries of Distribution. Check it out here.
Worthy mentions
This extension has recently been supported by Brian Feutz, Karen Madej, Jeanne-Erin (Pluto) Wolnosci, Danell teNyenhuis Black, Russel Lim (sorry, still don’t know your Medium handle), Jane Frost (Jane Grows Garden Rooms) and our beloved pioneer Anthony Lawrence (Pcunix).
I must say I have neglected the beta-releases through the official channel as of late. Anthony Lawrence (Pcunix) and I have been partnering up and he’s done a tremendous job of testing each new build with his scrutinous gaze. Thanks, Anthony!
Feedback
As always, I’d love to hear your feedback and what you want to see next! I can’t wait to hear from you in the comments!
