Don’t listen to the naysayers
If you are reading this, I bet you have heard someone say “don’t listen to the naysayers” or “haters gonna hate”. You might have also heard people say “sometimes people just project their fears on others”. Anyway, I would be sharing a little about the experience I have on the said topic.
The most important thing that I have learned about doing something new or nonconventional, is that not everybody has to know about it. If you want to do something that the people around you have never done, then you would need to keep the idea mostly to yourself and talk to only the right people. I use the term mostly because I believe that to an extent, we all need the support of the people around us in order to forge ahead. The key, however, is to ensure that you are not telling too many people about this unconventional idea of yours.
Not everybody is going to support you, know this and know peace. We shouldn’t live our lives banking on the support of everyone around us especially if the people in question do not believe in the future of whatever it is that you plan on doing. If you depend to the support of the people who you hold to a high esteem, chances are that you might end up not achieving what you were set to achieve because you were disappointed by the lack of support of the people in question.
Something that I recently learned is that, before you take someone’s advice, ask yourself “does this person have something that I want? Have they gotten to a place I would want to be when it comes to achievements? Are they an expert in the in the field I am about to embark on? Do they know something that I need to know?” If the answer to these questions is no, then you should not be talking to them in the first place. It is important that we control who we listen to especially when it comes to things that we are passionate about.
If you want to do something, you need to close your mind to the opinions of people that might discourage you from doing what you want to do especially when you have done your research and you believe in the idea. It is important to get meaningful feedback from people on how you could be better at what you do. However, always know how to spot the difference between feedback and pure discouragement because trust me everyone is watching. Everyone is watching out for your progress and even those that never believed in you would always seize the opportunity to talk about how much they have always believed in you.
