How To Level up in Your Twenties

This article is for all my fellow twenty years olds who are trying to figure out this thing called life and are having a tough time doing so.

I am also in my twenties (early twenties), and half of the time I don’t know what I am doing with my life. I struggle with staying consistent with a lot of things that are supposed to lead me to my ultimate goals in life. This could be eating healthy, going to the gym frequently, praying (particularly reading the bible and saying the rosary cause I’m catholic). Basically, I lack self-discipline. I know what to do. I know the right thing to do almost every time but I fail to do it. I sometimes struggle with keeping my mental health in check. I say some pretty nasty things to myself when I feel like I am not getting my life together and that needs to stop.

Now that we have established I am also a twenty-year-old that has no idea what they are doing, lets talk about how we can fix that.

Have a to-do list

Wake up every day with a plan. Having a structure on how your day will go is something that I would say is underrated. Growing up, adults around me would never hesitate at the opportunity to use the quote, “he who fails to plan, plans to fail”. While it might be a quote that people who grew up having a similar childhood as me would be too familiar with or tired of hearing. The question is, were they lying though?

I don't think so.

Half of the time, the reason I end up not doing half of the things that I said I was going to do is that I completely forgot about the task. I then would spend my entire day scrolling through Instagram or watching a ridiculous amount of videos on youtube. This led me to miss out on the ability to nurture valuable habits. It also meant that I procrastinated a lot and have to do a couple of things last minute.

The things that you put on your to-do list don’t have to be major life-changing tasks. It could be the little things like, clean the house today, meal prep, or sorting out the laundry. Things like these are often things that help you to remain active even on your lazy days. They also help to make sure that you have a clean space and a clear mind. So, you need to set out time to do the little things.

Don’t sacrifice your dreams too easily

Young people somethings make the mistake of sacrificing dreams for the wrong reasons. A lot of time, it could be because of their social circle. That’s right, friends. We overestimate the value of going to the club on Friday night as compared to staying home and studying for that test due on Monday. That was just an example not saying that that’s what a lot of young people do. The truth is that you just might be doing something similar.

I am not any different. I am always trying to be polite to people. If I do say so myself, I am polite to a fault. Countless times, I would find myself working on something that was related to my future and dropping everything that I was working on simply because I received a call. Oftentimes, the call wasn’t urgent and the person calling just wanted to chat. If you are reading this, I just want you to know that’s a MAJOR RED FLAG!!!

Never sacrifice your dreams simply because someone you know or just met wants to chat!!!

Set your priorities and make sure you set them right. Don’t make the mistake of sacrificing the possibility of living your dreams for something that is not as valuable or more valuable. Know that there is a difference between being polite and something that I would now call stupidity. If it ain’t worth your time, don’t bother. It ain’t worth it.

Always push yourself

You might not know it, but you just might be living with the limitations that you set for yourself. If you say to yourself things like; “I can’t go to the gym more than 3 times a week because I am not that strong”. You are limiting yourself. If you want to bag that degree, and you say to yourself; “I don’t think I am smart enough to pass the exams”. I promise you, you are limiting yourself.

Quickly scrap that from your vocabulary and remove it from your mind. Anything that would limit your view of the world and your ability to reach certain goals should never exist in your thoughts. Some thresholds are way beyond your wildest dreams, but never forget the power of the manifestation. If you believe something would work out for you, chances are that those things would work out and vice versa.

Rather, make the effort to engage in activities that would bring you closer to your goals. Stay motivated. Always remember that you can’t get your goals if you don’t make the small steps needed to attain them.

Read books!!

Reading books is a superpower. The knowledge you get from reading is second to none in my opinion. Going off of the last point that I made which is to push yourself, you need to read books. If you don’t read books, this is a call for you to get into the habit of reading.

Getting into the university, I got overwhelmed with the coursework load that I got and I stopped reading books. I noticed that my writing skills depreciated and I completely stopped being as curious as I used to be. Reading keeps you informed. It makes you aware of the opportunities around you. It helps you improve your critical thinking skills as you would know more to be able to analyze situations. I’m pretty sure it should help to increase your IQ. I might be wrong on that last point, correct me if I am.

Reading is a habit you should form and try not to drop because it comes in handy in multiple situations.

Those are my four tips on how to level up in your twenties coming from a girl in her twenties.

I wrote this because I believe that there could be a lot of people like me who are looking for ways to better their lives
