Don’t Feel Bad — You Still Are One of the Top 2,000 Medium Writers

A note to self.

I am grateful.

I am grateful that I still made the cut — I am one of the top 2,000 Medium writers. Although the email may come later, when I checked my Medium Partner’s Program dashboard, there was an additional $50. So my total for June will end up at $122.16.

I was hoping it would be more. Who wouldn’t want the extra $500? It would have made a big difference.

I don’t feel rejected, but I can’t say I am not disappointed. I tried my best, and I feel despite all of my best efforts, I failed. But that is my inner saboteur speaking because the truth is, I didn’t fail.

I am a winner.

It is July. Being my birth month, it was supposed to be my lucky month. But hey, isn’t $50 a sign of more luck to come?

What is this experience teaching me?

Can I be happy for those who made it to the top 1,000 list?

I am.

There is a reason why good things happen, and there is a reason when what we expect doesn't happen.

I should only look back at the last 52 years of my life to know that life lesson already.

The ones who made it well this month did well because they worked harder, wrote better stories, and deserved it.

They should be congratulated. I should congratulate myself, too, considering that there are thousands of writers on Medium today.

So to be in the top 2,000 list is an achievement, full stop.

Moving forward.

I am not quitting. Medium is my home. I still have a month to finish really well and get the golden ticket back!

I have to work harder. The competition is on, and let’s keep it friendly. I know writers would always have something to say and complain about.

I won’t be one of them. Some would say the bonus structure favors those already earning top money, leaving the new writers with crumbs.

But, when I first got the bonus, my stats and earnings will show that I don't belong to that top-tier group — “not yet!”

I leave the past behind.

There is a lesson to learn here. One of which — Life will continue to surprise me, and I may not know how and why for now, but it will work out in the end. It always does. Didn’t Mom teach me that lesson?

Final Thoughts.

Thank you, Medium. Thank you, Ev Williams. The bonus money is still an extra $50 that I would not have, Arigato Money!:)

My goal remains to be a better writer. Money will come, but what is important is I will be remembered for the stories that I will leave behind and hopefully inspire others to write.

So, see you around, and congratulations to everyone who wrote at least one story in June and didn’t quit. So, it’s OK, and we still have one month to get the bonus!

To my God and the Universe, I am grateful.
