Develop Your Creativity Instantly in 12 Minutes: Find 12 Things That Would Provide You Joy and Excitement NOW!
I am creating 12 doodle exercises in 12 days. This series will be made of one-minute articles that will help you quickly generate ideas and unleash your creativity. This is the tenth article (the first nine articles are here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here).
Get your pencil and notebook. Draw a flower with 12 petals, like the one below. Here is your challenge:
Imagine that you do not have to worry about money. Your goal is to make your life more colourful and joyful. For this goal, you will use divergent thinking and create a lot of ideas. You will think of 12 things you would love to do that would provide you joy, excitement, and meaning. You might include hobbies, micro-careers, projects, curiosities, or other activities that will excite you. The key idea is to regularly plan activities or projects that you look forward to.
- When did you last have fun? When were you playing and enjoying yourself? Can you recreate more of these opportunities in your life?
- What are some fresh possibilities that will excite you? Would you like to travel? Would you like to take up some hobbies? Would you like to start some passion projects or side hustles?
- How can you design your life for more surprises, entertainment, and joy?

For example, here is how I did this exercise:
- First, there is nothing I love more than teaching. I would love to continue designing inspiring learning experiences for my students in the years to come. I will experiment with innovative methods and cutting-edge perspectives in my teaching. I will focus on developing practical exercises focused on creativity and asset creation. I will design some of the most inspiring, useful, and impactful workshops in the world, constantly improving the quality of what I offer.
- Second, I would like to continue writing on Medium. Writing online has become like a lifestyle thing for me — I want to continue writing new articles that excite me. I will use these articles as the basis of my future asset creation. As I grow my Medium library, I will also create an ecosystem of e-books and digital products on GumRoad. My goal is to explore the things I love, experiment with the skills that I care about, and develop myself as a successful global writer. This goal excites me.
- Third, I would love to travel to exciting locations, such as historical towns of Europe and Asia. I would love to travel the world, exploring local food, architecture, culture, arts, and nature. I have a number of exciting itineraries and destinations on my mind. I want to work less and travel more in the long term.
- Fourth, I would love to continue learning new stuff that excites me. I have created a long list of things that I would love to learn. They are here.
- Fifth, I would love to take on the 43 birthday challenges that I have designed for myself at the start of this year. I have realised that these challenges might take longer than a year to accomplish, but I am ready to take extra time as needed.
- Sixth, I would love to continue my journey on YouTube, focusing on quality and innovation. I would love to keep creating new videos, invest in my editing skills and production quality, and experiment with innovative formats and concepts. I might continue with TikTok as well, if I feel enough excitement as a creator.
- Seventh, I want to continue doodling and notebook-keeping. I spend at least an hour every day on writing and doodling in my notebooks. I want to continue doing this, regardless of what happens in my life. I reinvent, excite, and cure myself in these notebooks. If there is no notebook time in my daily calendar, I view it as a lost day.
- Eighth, I want to go on micro-entrepreneurial journeys. I want to create new inventions and content in the fields of work, learning, careers, creativity, content creation, storytelling, entrepreneurship, and asset creation. I want to achieve momentum in my micro-entrepreneurial projects (my YouTube journey, my Medium blog, doodle book, executive teaching, GumRoad digital product ecosystem, e-books, etc.). These adventures give my a lot of joy and excitement.
- Ninth, I want to play and laugh more. I want to do things just for fun. Things that do not go anywhere. I would like to experiment with new things and formats (such as fun, improvisation, comedy sketches, storytelling, science fiction, etc.).
- Tenth, I want to create new books and workshops on topics that I am curious about. You can find my speculative ideas and titles here.
- Eleventh, I want to be creative. I want to be involved in multiple forms and formats of art. You can see some of my ideas here.
- Twelfth, I want more surprises and adventures in my life. I want to open room for the unknown (X factor). I might even write a book on this or prepare a workshop on the power of the unknown. Ideally, we want to be prepared for the unknown and open more room for open learning, experimentation, blue sky research, and boundless curiosity.
It is your turn now. Do the exercise now — it will be very rewarding for you. In 12 minutes, you will create your 12 ideas. Write them on the flower petals.
I continue this exercise series over 12 days. Each day, you receive a straightforward creative challenge of creating 12 ideas in 12 minutes. We are coming to an end. 2 more to go.
