Abstract

my skills and knowledge on various exciting topics. I might learn about acting, dancing, drawing, painting, creative writing, screenwriting, designing stuff, creating content, getting viral on social media, starting side hustles, or creating multiple income streams. I want to learn about magic, comedy, performance arts, storytelling, entrepreneurship, investing, personal finance, artificial intelligence, and science fiction. My list might change or get longer — I will follow my heart’s desires and my mind’s curiosities.z

Third, I want to become a better writer. I already consume a lot about how to become a better online writer and content creator. I want to continue investing in myself and my skills in this regard. I will continue reading Medium articles and blog posts about these topics. In addition, I want to also practice creative writing. I might try writing short stories or science fiction pieces. Alternatively, I might practice with screenwriting. I want to get back to academic writing as well, and develop an engaging and creative style of writing on topics that I am excited about. I want to reach 1000 articles on Medium platform, and I hope this will help me improve my writing (more experiments will hopefully result in better progress). I want to challenge and scare myself in multiple domains related to writing.

Fourth, I want to learn more about the future. This includes learning about new technologies such as artificial intelligence, Metaverse, NFTs, blockchain, and space travel. I am deeply curious about how our lives and jobs will be transformed by the year 2030. In particular, I am curious about how individuals should reinvent themselves to adapt to the non-linear changes of the 2020s. I want to read more fiction and non-fiction books that provide a compelling vision for the future. I want to improve myself as a futurist and science fiction enthusiast. I will keep learning in this domain. I want to be a thought leader in the fields of creativity, jobs, and the future.

Fifth, I want to learn more about money, entrepreneurship, investing, compounding, asset creation, and personal finance. Ideally, I want to write an e-book to address these topics, since writing is one of the best ways to master a field. I also want to create a workshop that delves into critical skills in these domains, since teaching is another great method to master a field.

Sixth, I want to learn more about different fields related to arts, creativity, innovation, technology, personal development, productivity, employability, storytelling, entrepreneurship, and business. I am a geek when it comes to these topics, and I love getting inspired by new ideas across these topics. I want to become a thought leader who comes up original ideas related to these areas and inspires individuals who are curious about these topics. In particular, I want to inspire and empower everyone to be creative. I believe everyone is creative and can tap into their creativity through simple activities, such as doodling, writing, video-making, and diary-keeping. I want to create a large library of exercises and resources for individuals interested in practicing their creativity.

Seventh, I want to improve myself as a scholar and researcher. I have experienced some disenchantment with academic life since the pandemic, but I am now in the process of recovery. I want to take up on my academic writing and research projects, and achieve momentum in these projects. My goal is to publish cutting-edge qualitative research in one of the leading (4-star) international business/management journals. In particular, I would like to conduct innovative and high-impact qualitative research on topics I am curious about, such as FONKU (the fear of not keeping up). This will accelerate my learning journey as an academic. I want to apply for professorship after I make progress in these research goals and advance in my journey as a top scholar.

Eighth, I want to improve my skills as an entrepreneur. I want to work as an entrepreneur of new ideas in the fields of work, learning, careers, creativity, content creation, storytelling, micro-entrepreneurship, and asset creation. I have a number of micro-entrepreneurial projects (my YouTube journey, my Medium blog, doodle book, executive teaching, GumRoad digital product ecosystem, e-books, etc.). One of the major obstacles I have is to figure out how to reach more people and build my own audience. I do not know much about marketing and sales, nor do I know about virality, yet these are very critical to be successful as an entrepreneur. I have a ton of ideas, but I need to figure out my true priorities that will provide the most leverage, opportunities, and impact. I am also easily discouraged as an entrepreneur, since many of my initiatives seem to be failures (if we judge them on the basis of sales and reach). I do not know how to market and monetise my creations, and this seems to be core critical skills to survive and thrive as an entrepreneur. I need to learn how to be resilient, savvy, and resourceful. Develop Your Creativity Instantly in 12 Minutes: Find 12 Things You Would Love to Learn NOW!

Photo by Iñaki del Olmo on Unsplash

I am creating 12 doodle exercises in 12 days. This series will be made of one-minute articles that will help you quickly generate ideas and unleash your creativity. This is the ninth article (the first eight articles are here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here).

Get your pencil and notebook. Draw a flower with 12 petals, like the one below. Here is your challenge:

Your goal is to accelerate your learning in your life. For this goal, you will use divergent thinking and create a lot of ideas on what to learn. You will think of 12 things you would love to learn. Make a list of all the things that spark your curiosity and enthusiasm. These might be new skills, languages, topics, technologies, or trends you are curious about. Choose things that will stimulate you. You might get some ideas and inspiration here or here or here.

 • What are the topics, disciplines, or issues that excite or stimulate you?
 • Which books do you want to read?
 • Which skills do you want to develop?
 • Which technologies or innovations do you want to learn more about?
 • What do you want to learn about?
 • Which languages or cultures excite you?
 • What would you like to learn if there were no limits?

For example, here is how I did this exercise:

 • First, I want to reinvent myself every day as a scholar, writer, teacher, artist, content creator, futurist, polymath, and entrepreneur. This means I must spend at least 90 minutes every day to learn new stuff that excites me. I will pursue my interests and curiosities wherever they take me. I might get curious about how Pixar makes animation movies, how technological singularity might look like, or the closest stars and their exoplanets. What matters is I must learn at least a couple of exciting and cool things every day. I might end up sharing some of my excitements with the world through articles, videos, or doodles. I must think small and act instantly to create my creative assets and content.
 • Second, I want to take courses on Masterclass and Skillshare to improve my skills and knowledge on various exciting topics.
 • Third, I want to become a better writer. I already consume a lot about how to become a better online writer and content creator. I want to continue investing in myself and my skills in this regard. I will continue reading Medium articles and blog posts about these topics. In addition, I want to also practice creative writing. I want to challenge and scare myself in multiple domains related to writing.
 • Fourth, I want to learn more about the future. I also want to create a workshop that delves into critical skills in these domains, since teaching is another great method to master a field.

I want to create a large library of exercises and resources for individuals interested in practicing their creativity.
 • Seventh, I want to improve myself as a scholar and researcher. • Eighth, I want to improve my skills as an entrepreneur. I need to make sure I am living my life in such a way that I am doing exactly what I want and use my 100% potential towards my goals. I need to be crystal clear on my priorities and I need to cut out all the distractions and noises that block me. I easily get lost in my busy-ness, whereas I need to be smarter and more strategic in my actions.
 • Tenth, I want to understand the Zeitgeist of our times through the lenses of technology, cinema, TV, music, social media, pop culture, comedy, fashion, science fiction, and entertainment. I want to use multidisciplinary and futurist perspectives to understand social, cultural, economic, and technological trends. I want to follow my curiosities and excitements across these domains.
 • Eleventh, I would love to learn new languages, perhaps Chinese and Korean. I do not have the time to learn these languages right now, but I would love to be able learn new languages and travel to these countries.
 • Twelfth, I would love to be open to the power of the unknown. I call this X factor, and I want to open myself up to fresh, exciting, and chaotic possibilities.

It is your turn now. Do the exercise now — it will be very rewarding for you. In 12 minutes, you will create your 12 ideas. Write them on the flower petals.

I will continue this exercise series over 12 days. Each day, you receive a straightforward creative challenge of creating 12 ideas in 12 minutes.
