December 2023 Goals Update — Charts, Graphs, Earnings & More!
There were plenty of failures and successes.
In November, I learned consistency pays off. So in December, my main goal was to continue being consistent.
I had three main areas of focus in December:
- Medium
- X/Twitter
- Newsletter
Let’s recap the goals I had for these…
Medium
- Read at least ten stories daily and highlight, clap, and comment on those stories.
- Write at least 1 article daily.
X/Twitter
- Comment on at least 25 posts per day.
Newsletter
- I didn’t have any specific goals except to (hopefully) grow my list.
Side goals
I had other side goals that didn’t fit the above categories. I’ll go over these below when I reveal how I did with them.
X Results
Let’s start with X’s results since this one was my major failure.
❌ I commented on 25 posts there only eight times in the month. Why? It’s not worth the time.
I’m writing up my January goals next, and I’m going to remove this X goal altogether.
I’m still under 800 followers after more than a year there. There are also way too many bros over there.
X is too much of a struggle for me.
Medium Results
Medium is where things went very well for me in December.
➖ I completed my ten reading, highlighting, clapping, and responding on all but nine days. This was a very busy month, so I think that’s pretty good. I’ll give it a dash instead of the ol’ red x.
✅ I had articles go out every day except for five. I’m giving myself a checkmark for that.
Consistency continues to pay off. I hit 1.3k followers in December.

My goal was to double my income from last month, and my expectations were far exceeded!
I’m excited to continue growing on this platform in January and beyond.
Newsletter Results
As mentioned, I didn’t have any specific newsletter goals, except to grow it. In January, I’ll need to come up with better goals, because this should be the #1 area to focus on.
But I’m happy with the growth I got in December:
I need to learn how to use ConvertKit’s creator network. And maybe there’s more potential with SparkLoop too? I’m not sure. It’s on the agenda to figure this stuff out.
My open rates and click-through rates are decent. Evan Kelly said we need to clean our lists every quarter, and I believe him. That should help boost these stats:
All in all, I’m happy with the way things are going with my simple mini newsletter!
Side Goal Results
I didn’t have high hopes for my side goals since it was such a busy month. I’m going to try to tackle more of these in January.
✅ Update my newsletter landing page.
❌ Create a “Favorite Tools & Services” page on my website.
➖ Write a couple of reviews to put on my website. (I wrote one review for Kieran Drew’s High Impact Writing course.)
❌ Come up with at least 1 or 2 simple lead magnets.
❌ Come up with a product to sell.
❌ Come up with a simple product or 2 to add to Teachers Pay Teachers.
Affiliate Sales
As a side note, I was able to make a couple of affiliate sales this month through my newsletter. They equaled about $350.
This is an area I also want to bump up in the new year, as I discussed slightly in my 2024 goals article. This isn’t only for my own benefit, but affiliate marketing is one of my three favorite side hustles, and I want to show you how you would benefit from it too!
Final Thoughts
Despite my major failures with X, I am very happy with my Medium and newsletter results! I plan to put most of my focus on those two platforms in the new year.
I’ll be taking X down a notch, and bumping up the activity on Pinterest. I’ll keep you posted on the results at the end of January.
2023 rocked, and I can’t wait to see what 2024 brings!
