Her efforts led to a significant increase in views, audience growth, and earnings, surpassing her previous highest-earning month and reaching over $100. Christina also set goals for Twitter/X, focusing on daily postings and commenting on others' content, which resulted in modest follower growth and consistent engagement. She tracked her progress meticulously using Google Sheets and expressed satisfaction with her consistency and the support from her peers. Christina plans to adjust her goals for December and the upcoming year, aiming for continued growth while balancing the busy holiday season.

November 2023 Medium & X Challenges — Update

The results are in!

I joined Medium in January 2023 through the Ship 30 for 30 program. I waffled my way through most of the year, but I didn’t have the clarity or consistency to have much growth.

You can see that from my earnings:

But on October 31, Jamie Northrup - Minimalist Hustler posted this November challenge. I decided to join in (albeit a little late).

I had goals for Medium and X/Twitter:

Let me tell you how I did and the results I achieved.

Medium Goals

My three goals for Medium were:

  1. 3 short-form articles per week.
  2. 2 longer-form articles per week.
  3. Read, highlight, clap, and comment on at least five articles daily.

Short-form articles:

✅ Week 1 = 4

❌ Week 2 = 2 (But I did extra long-form articles)

✅ Week 3 = 5

❌ Week 4 = 2 (so far, but we’re rolling into December tomorrow)

Longer-form articles:

✅ Week 1 = 4

✅ Week 2 = 5

✅ Week 3 = 3

✅ Week 4 = 4 (so far)

Read, highlight, clap, and comment on at least five articles daily:

✅ Week 1 = Every day

✅ Week 2 = Every day

❌ Week 3 = I missed 11/20 & 11/24

✅ Week 4 = Every day (so far)

Medium Results

If you see my earnings above, you can see my highest earning month was $8.50 in October.

At the time of this writing, the month isn’t quite over, but here are the results from November — views, audience, and earnings:

(Almost to that elusive $100!)

Note: I’m updating this part on Dec 1, 2023. I just checked the final earnings, and I made it over $100!

You can see it’s one story pulling most of the weight. I know this is very common.

Medium Goals — Final Thoughts

I am thrilled at the results this month! Hell yea! 🤘 Consistency works! It also helps to have people in your corner who share your work. Thank you to Jamie (mentioned above), Evan Kelly, and Matt Brady!

Now let’s move on to X.

X Goals

Twitter/X is less of a focus for me than Medium, so I only picked two simple goals:

  1. Write at least 2 posts per day (relevant to my topic)
  2. Comment on at least 10 posts per day

Write at least 2 posts per day (relevant to my topic)

✅ Week 1 = Every day

✅ Week 2 = Every day

❌ Week 3 = Posts daily, except 1 post on 11/26. I missed some comments on 11/20 and 11/24.

❌ Week 4 = Missed my posts on 11/27.

Twitter Results

These were my followers when I wrote my goals article:

And here’s what it looks like today:

Not bad, but not great. Commenting on 10 posts a day is not a lot, so it’s not surprising.

All this green looks pretty nice though:

I’m mostly interested in Profile Clicks right now because my main goal is to grow my newsletter list.

X Goals — Final Thoughts

I feel OK about how I did on X. I’m not ecstatic, but I’m happy I was pretty consistent. Since Medium is more of a priority, I’m good with how X is holding up.

I also have a love/hate relationship with the platform. It can get extremely boring on there once you’re stuck in an echo chamber.

I’m trying to find ways to break out of it so I can talk to some non-Money-X people. Sometimes I just want to talk to other Chevelle fans, and not talk about newsletters and marketing. But I also know that will hinder my growth.

How I Keep Track of Everything

I’m using my favorite tool to keep track of everything. Nope. Not Notion.

Google Sheets.

I love the simplicity of Google Sheets.

I’ll show you how I’m tracking everything so far. This will likely change over time.

I keep a seperate sheet for each week. At the top of my page, I keep track of my reads, claps, highlights, and comments for each day for Twitter and Medium.

I also keep track of my articles, if they’re long or short, and if I submitted them to a publication.

If you scroll down on my sheet, this is what you’ll see:

I have my newsletter titles and the date it went out.

Then I have the Twitter posts I put up. I got too lazy to actually link them.

That’s it!

I keep it simple.

Simple is always better.

I hope that helps you in some way.

Final Thoughts

November was an awesome month! It feels good to make some progress instead of spinning my wheels and getting nowhere.

I’m going to be creating new goals for December. (And then for all of 2024 a little later in the month — exciting!)

I might scale some things back a bit since it’s such a busy month. I’m not sure yet. I’ll probably make it up on the fly tomorrow.

Be sure to check back to see what I come up with!
