I received a few comments defending Medium and how they are doing the best they can to control this pervasive scammer problem.
The above article was a quick dive into an amazing writer named Mihai Eminescu who is cheating the system by churning out ChatGPT articles and then using a bot farm to generate artificial engagement.
I thought my article and my reporting of his writing and the accounts that were spamming the comments would help Medium to snuff out this ring.
I was wrong. He is still publishing articles and still receiving the same comments from the same people. Medium either ignored my reports or is ok with this behavior.
The next chapter of the “Dear Medium” series will be diving into the rabbit hole that is his network of “friends” who are so passionate about hard drives and power supplies.
The Gates of the Rabbit Hole
Behold Tokyo a random account from Mihai’s followers.
From their account I began to do some snooping. Lets look at who he is following.
Now we are going to take a look at a few of these accounts and see if we can see a pattern forming. First we will look at alina bulina.
Wow 1k claps! Amazing, and 21 comments. We have never seen that amount of engagement before. I doubt we will ever see that level of engagement again.
All were just 5 hours ago too. I doubt we ever see these accounts commenting on anyone else.
Further down the Rabbit Hole
Next on the list of accounts to sleuth is dalia m. At first glance I thought she was real. She maybe but lets look at the engagement in her story.
As you can see she has 1k claps and 21 comments. All from the same people.
Down, Down, Down we go
Next on Tokyo’s following list is a person named David Florin. He writes a captivating piece about the enigmatic beauty of Tyrol.
Look at how much engagement it has.
That has to be it, we couldn’t possible find another account that has the same exact pattern of GPT content and GPT comments by the same accounts…
But wait there’s more
A lot more, I do not think I could find the end if I tried. Here is one more screen shot from an account with the same pattern.
This labyrinth of scammers only gets wider and wider the farther I go down it.
