Dear Boost Nominators — Here Are My Best Stories
Making your job easier
Dear Boost Nominators, I understand that boosting is a tough job. Sorting the wheat from the chaff on Medium is time consuming. So let me help.
I write many stories — some boostable, some not. I’m not pretending all my work is top notch. It isn’t. But some of it is good. And some of my best stories get completely overlooked in favour of 2 minute reads about Medium. 🙄
So, if you’re a booster looking for something to boost, let me introduce you to a selection of my most boostable stories. If one gets boosted, or 6 months passes since the publication date, I will remove the article, so you can be confident they’re all eligible and haven’t been boosted already.
Here we go…
1. Benjamin Franklin, Debauchery, & the Hellfire Club, UK (published Jan 04, 2024)
Maybe I should have called this “Benjamin Franklin was a Pervert” to get people’s attention but that seemed disrespectful. He just liked to have a good time! Nonetheless, the antics of the Hellfire Club of which he was probably a member have not gone unnoticed in my part of the world! And it’s a good story!
2. Step Inside A Cold War Nuclear Bunker: The Man Prepared for WWIII (published January 7, 2024)
This interview with the owner of a nuclear bunker tells the story of the 1950s preparations for nuclear war with Russia, as well as exploring the challenges of running the place as a tourist attraction. A much overlooked great read. With a video tour! What are you waiting for?
3. Helping London’s Homeless in Winter (published Dec 2, 2023)
This story follows outreach workers from SPEAR London, who go out to find rough sleepers in London and help them find assistance and accommodation according to their needs. The streets are a horrible place to live. This interview gives some insight into homeless people’s lives and challenges.
4. Attractiveness Isn’t Just About How You Look (published Sep 3, 2023)
In a world where people are ever more judged by appearances and eating disorders are on the rise, it’s good to take a step back and remember that there’s much more to attractiveness than how we look. And sometimes, we might be focusing on the wrong things. There’s a lesson in growing your confidence here, too.
5. I’m Related to History’s Most Notorious Quack Doctor… & A Famous Poet! (published Nov 18, 2023)
This one is a deep dive into researching family history — and what my dad discovered when he looked into our ‘family tree’. I’m related to the Byrons from history (playwright and poet), and a notorious ‘doctor’. This story is part memoir, part historical people, and you’ll learn about life in the 18th and 19th centuries, too!
6. Eat More, Lose Weight (published January 4, 2024)
This one offers good advice for anyone trying to get healthier this year when successive diets have failed and more sustainable tweaks to their lifestyle might be a better approach. This doesn’t involve scales or restricting your eating. It involves food swaps and healthy tips.
