Madeline Kahn was born in Boston, the daughter of Bernard and Feda Wolfson, in 1942. When her parents divorced, Madeline took the name of her step-father. After studying drama and music at Hofstra University, she began her career as an opera singer in Candide.

“I find being funny very hard work. I am always asked about it, and I feel guilty saying that, but it’s the truth. I love my work, but it ain’t easy.”

Kahn started getting theater roles which led to a part in the film version of Mame in 1974. Then, however, producer and star Lucille Ball fired Madeline over ‘artistic differences’.

The firing opened the door for Khan to be cast in Blazing Saddles, directed by Mel Brooks. Their long association of working together is the stuff of comedy legend. Sadly, Madeline Khan died at age 57 from ovarian cancer in 1999.

Scotland Yard was founded in 1829. The name actually came from the name of the house occupied by its co-founders, Colonel Richard Mayne and Charles Rowan. Initially, the unit was formed as a version of America’s Secret Service, designed to protect powerful Britons.

Gone But Not Forgotten

Blues guitarist Otis Rush was the original great left-handed guitar player. His influence on Rock music is felt through the works of Clapton, Peter Green, and Mike Bloomfield. Otis died in 2018 at 84.
