Christopher Reeve was born in 1952 in New York. He gained fame for playing the lead role in the first movie version of Superman. After three sequels, Reeve worked to separate himself from the action hero by taking parts in smaller budget films.

In 1995, Christopher was riding in an equestrian competition when he was thrown from his horse and broke his neck.

“So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.”

Paralyzed from the shoulders down for the remainder of his life, Christopher championed the cause for spinal cord research. He also reprised the role played by James Stewart in Rear Window in 1998, receiving a subsequent Golden Globe Award.

Reeve won a Grammy Award that same year for best-spoken word album. Cristopher Reeve directed several films afterward and published two books as well.

Today is:

Cooking Day — I’m not sure why this needs a special day since most of us do it every day.

Lobster Day — Too bad I live in the centre of the country. Hard to get it fresh here.

Musical Ride

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers completed their 40th Anniversary tour at the Hollywood Bowl in 2017. Unfortunately, we lost Tom a week later.

Interesting Notes

Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas was racially integrated in 1957 by the United States Army.

Gone But Not Forgotten

Asphyxiation from vomiting was the official cause of the death of John Bonzo Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin. Bonham had spent the entire night drinking in 1980. Rather than continue without him, the band decided to break up.
