Day Tripping: September 19
Hail the Caped Crusader

Born in 1928 from a mother who was once an opera singer, Adam West knew very early in life what he wanted to become. Acting was in his blood from a young age, so Adam went where there was work.
“If you hang around long enough, they think you’re good. It’s either my tenacity or my stupidity, I’m not sure which.”
After college and a stint in the US Army, West headed far West to Hawaii to take on television roles. After appearing in The Young Philadelphians with Paul Newman, Adam started getting cast in various Westerns. Later, Adam West did the last Three Stooges movie The Outlaws Is Coming and some feature roles like The Outer Limits on TV.
Then, his big break came with Batman, beating out Lyle Waggoner of Carol Burnett Show fame for the lead role. Unfortunately, Adam had difficulty finding other roles after Batman, though he was once considered for James Bond.
Today is:
Butterscotch Pudding Day — Tasty
International Talk Like a Pirate Day — Argh! There ya be matey.
Musical Ride
The recording studio wonder of pitch-correction software was released as Auto-Tune in 1997. After Cher uses the device for her hit song Believe, auto-tune becomes both ubiquitous and annoying in the music industry.
Artists are split between regarding the voice aid as a godsend and a cabin on the purity of music.
Interesting Notes
A new era of animation was introduced when Mickey Mouse made his first appearance in Steamboat Willie in 1928 at the Colony Theater in New York.
Gone But Not Forgotten
Ellis Marsalis Sr. came to New Orleans from Mississippi in 1927 and left a legacy for civil rights and musical excellence. He was the first black businessman to have an Esso franchise and built a hotel and restaurant for people to enjoy Ray Charles, Cab Calloway, and Etta James.
Marsalis Sr. was the father of piano great Ellis Marsalis Jr., and the grandfather of Wynton, Branford, Delfeayo, and Jason. Ellis Sr. died in 2004 at the age of 96.
