The King of the Blues was born in Mississippi in 1925. When Riley King arrived in Memphis during the 40s, he was given the nickname ‘Beale Street Blues Boy’. Eventually, he became Blues Boy and finally, B.B. King.

“The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.”

During a gig in the mid-fifties, a fire started when a fight broke out in the club. B.B. returned later to the burned out building to learn his guitar was safe as well as what caused the fire. The bar fight was over a girl named Lucille, and that is how B.B. King’s guitar got its name.

Today is:

Play-Doh Day — Originally, this silly substance was designed to clean wallpaper in the 1930s. Twenty years later, the Rainbow Crafts Company gained the rights to the product and began marketing the child-safe clay on kids TV.

Musical Ride

Lead singer and guitar player for T Rex, Marc Bolan was riding in a Mini in 1977 being driven by his girlfriend when she lost control and hit a tree. Bolan was killed instantly at the age of 29. As one of the pioneers of Glam Rock, Bolan’s funeral was attended by David Bowie and Rod Stewart.

Interesting Notes

The Xerox 914 was introduced in 1959 as the first commercial photocopier.
