Day Tripping: November 19
The Brave One

Born in 1962, Alicia Foster was a gifted child who learned to read at the age of three. She also attended a French-language prep school where her fluency opened the door to act in French cinema. Alicia was also valedictorian upon graduating and then attended Yale University.
But before all that when she was still three, the child her siblings nicknamed Jodie, starred in an internationally acclaimed Coppertone commercial.
“Normal is not something to aspire to, it is something to get away from.”
Jodie Foster got her first recurring television role in 1969 with The Courtship of Eddie’s Father. After appearing in Martin Scorcese’s Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, he cast her in his next feature Taxi Driver.
Foster’s mother was not pleased about her 14-year-old daughter playing a prostitute, but the role launched a film career that has spanned decades. Since 2010, Jodie has taken her talents as a filmmaker mostly behind the camera to direct.
