Hop on the writer’s trail

By Beatrix Potter — Aleph-bet Books, Public Domain

The Tale of Peter Rabbit is one of the best loved children’s stories in history. The author, Helen Beatrix Potter, who was born in 1866 was also a conservationist and a student of natural science. She was influenced as a young child by the work of Lewis Carroll and particularly its illustrations by John Tenniel.

“There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they’ll take you.”

Beatrix’s Potter’s creativity took her to authoring 23 books as well as her own illustrations. As her work continued to succeed, she enjoyed the English countryside as a sheep farmer, using her skills as a natural scientist to experiment with biological remedies for animal diseases.

Today is:

This just isn’t fair…National Hamburger Day and National Milk Chocolate Day.

Oh well, when in Rome…

Musical Ride

Ah, the Rock and Roll life!

Lead guitar player for Aerosmith Joe Perry, got into a shouting match with Steve Tyler after their Cleveland concert in 1979 and walked on the group, leaving them to replace him with Jim Crespo. Five years later, Perry rejoined Aerosmith.

Interesting Notes

Jake Clemons, the nephew of the late great Clarence Clemons received thunderous applause in Sweden for his sax solo during Jungleland while playing with the E Street Band in 2012. It was the first time that Bruce Springsteen performed the song since the death his friend the year previously.

Gone But Not Forgotten

Terry Fox died exactly one month before his twenty-third birthday, on June 28, 1983. He was born on this day in 1958.

For lack of impactful names that passed on this day in history, Terry is remembered here because of his Herculean efforts to raise funds for cancer research.

Long before internet funding was a concern, Terry Fox captured the hearts and imagination of a nation, and then in his passing, far beyond the borders of his Canadian home. The acts of this REAL hero can never be understated.

#tryliketerry is this year’s slogan for the annual Terry Fox Run which is now a global event.
