Media Marvels

By U.S. State Department — Public Domain

The TV sitcom format of the nineteen-seventies was shaped in large part by this man who was born this day in 1922. For most of his 99 years, Norman Lear has been a major figure in television’s social conscience.

“We just may be the most well-informed, yet least self-aware, people in history.”

The man who brought us, Sanford and Son, Maude, The Jeffersons, and of course, Archie Bunker and All In the Family, used comedy in a very unique way to address some of the world’s toughest issues. Norman stays young by continuing to work, and we are all the better for it.

Today is:

National Chicken Finger Day — WIth all the new sandwich craze that’s gripped fast food lately, I guess the poor chicken strip needs its day.

National Crème Brûlée Day — What can I say? More delicious calories.

Musical Ride

The private file-sharing application, Kazaa agrees to pay several record labels $115 million in damages for pirating music in 2006. The case is instrumental in changing the way music is uploaded going forward.
