When he was ten years old, Robert Plant decided he wanted to be like Elvis Presley. He was born in 1948 and sixteen years later, Plant left school to get an education in music.

“I’ve been scared and I’ve liked not hanging on to stuff where I know that I’m in my comfort zone.“

At his shows, Plant will still do a couple of obligatory Zeppelin standards, but he clearly moves on through a musical journey of change. Robert Plant is one of the few rock legends who has evolved beyond his roots.

He went on to form The Honey Drippers, has performed with Alison Krauss, and created the Band of Joy. Through it all, his voice remains sublime.

Musical Ride

In 2016, 7000 fans packed a small arena in Kingston, Ontario to witness the final concert of The Tragically Hip. The band’s frontman, Gord Downie had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer months earlier.

Millions of Canadians tuned in to watch Downie give a stirring three-hour performance with his mates. The highly emotional evening finished with three encores and Downie simply saying, “thanks for that”. Gord’s battle with cancer ended fourteen months later.

Interesting Notes

In 1975, NASA launched the Viking 1 probe destined for Mars. In 1977, NASA launched Voyager 2 headed for the edge of our solar system.

Gone But Not Forgotten

More than a comedian and acclaimed filmmaker, Jerry Lewis was a magnificent humanitarian. His work to raise funds for the Muscular Distophy Association brought in countless millions for Jerry’s Kids. Jerry Lewis died in 2017 at 91.
