Day 28–100 Days 100 Ways Being Visible
Towards a world in which everyone thrives

I have woken every morning the past few days with my being-visible project on my mind. Questions were waiting for me as I emerged from sleep. I pondered them in that half-asleep half-awake trance-like state that sometimes happens on waking. What will I do today to be more visible? Why do I want to be more visible anyway? Might I be better off not being more visible? Am I being visible anyway and this project is more about being comfortable with being visible than it is about increasing visibility? Is the goal I set for this project (launching an online course) a smokescreen that allows me to hide from being visible in the worlds of politics and social change, aspects of life that I would say are much more important than launching a course? Is my long-procrastinated online course my route to making the world a better place? Am I sharing little or nothing from my life journey (particularly from my experience founding a software start-up that succeeded and instigating Australia’s first cohousing community) because there is nothing worth sharing or because I am playing small and staying hidden?
I do not have answers. I am going to sit in the questions and not rush to answer them.
I read this today:
“Whether in English or Esperanto, we are the only species capable of using words to imagine worlds we have never seen.” Stephanie Tam, A Tale of Two Tongues
How amazing that we can imagine new worlds. Some people imagine new worlds that require immense transformations in human consciousness — like a world where peace is the norm and conflicts are resolved without war. On a more personal level, the 100 Days 100 Ways project is about making more modest changes to our individual worlds. I am imagining a world in which I spend a lot less effort hiding and a lot more effort to be visible. I am imagining a world in which I, by being more visible, can empower others to be more visible and more effective in their leadership and in the way they relate to other people. A world to which I bring a little more peace by helping people to relate and lead more effectively.
At heart, I am a peacemaker. I want to contribute in some small way to the creation of a world in which everyone thrives.
I am convinced that the interpretations and distinctions about what it is to be human in the ontological/generative discourse have much to offer those who approach creating a world in which everyone thrives (on a planet with fully functioning ecosystems). It is for the sake of contributing to a world in which everyone thrives that I am committed to my first online course and to the ongoing learning required to becoming visible.
