Day 18–100 Days Being Visible
Life long practice is ‘the way’

I took very small new risks being visible today. Nothing anyone else would notice or think unusual, but I noticed them. I sent coaching clients additional material immediately after our conversations. I republished yesterday’s microblog about how to open Outlook in Calendar View by adding an opinion section (about the purpose and value of calendar use in managing one’s capacity to deliver on commitments). I phoned a supplier to cancel a contract and ask them to bill me for what they considered I owed them (something I have put off doing for several weeks). I started to make a list of what I could publish and where to stretch myself with being visible. I prepared my invoices for the month (and again experienced gratitude for the income I receive).
I also discovered today that I earned $0.09 from Medium for people reading my Day 15 and Day 16 articles; I was thrilled. Although I can argue that much of my income over the years was generated as a consequence of my writing, this is the first time I have ever been directly paid for my written work. I have ‘always’ (i.e. for as long as I can remember) believed that I cannot write, and have experienced significant anxiety when required to write. It seems like earning my first 9c from writing has generated the possibility in my mind that I could enjoy learning to write with increasing skill.
Knowledge
I read a medium article by Erik Brown this morning about the Japanese concept of dō or ‘the way’ (Strive to Improve Your Life By Practicing The JapaneseConcept Of Dō) which is about progress from the life long practice of an art, whatever that art may be. I was reminded that there are few quick fixes or instant transformations in life (although, in my experience, there are some) and most progress comes from small incremental gains that accumulate over time.
Progress
Today was a day putting one foot in front of the other as I practised ‘the way’ of being visible. Progress is progress even when it is incremental.
