Dark Medical Practices Used On Women Not Too Long Ago
Lines were badly crossed.
Women have been suffering since very early in history — it was not only physical or psychological abuse but much more, and one of many was the medical practices used on women during the early days.
All sorts of medical practices have been in use, and some of these medical practices of old are still in use in this day and age when medical science has advanced beyond imagination.
Below you will find some of these absurd medical practices that were being used on women for various reasons.
Fruits And Reproductive Parts
Who doesn’t love fruits? It is one of the healthiest options that a human can opt for when planning to go on a healthier diet — and come on, some of these fruits are the tastiest form of food out there.
However, the grim part comes when we talk about fruits and reproductive parts together, especially when talking about putting fruits inside of reproductive parts.
A long time ago, women were encouraged by medical practitioners, aka doctors, to crush up juniper berries and smear them inside the private parts.
The reason for this was — the doctors believed this method helped with an unwanted pregnancy.
The shocking part was the method actually did work to a certain extent, but just imagine the level of itchiness and burn that this must have caused.
Victorian Explosion From The Victorian Era
Well, for this one, a bit of reader discretion is advised — Victorian explosions, not the explosion you might be thinking.
Doctors during the Victorian era thought women were way too emotional, and to treat this hysteria, these medical practitioners came up with an amazing solution.
The doctors stimulated the reproductive part of a female till it exploded. I would leave that to your imagination — however, now you know what the Victorian Explosion was all about.
The procedure, however, was extremely scandalous even during the time it was being practiced — eventually, an electronic device was made, which not only made the procedure much more acceptable by many and made the doctor’s job much easier.
Poop For Contraception From Time Of Pharaohs
Now we all know that poop has been used by people from the very early days as something that was rubbed on women for many reasons, one of them being to ward off any kind of love interest.
However, the worse one is where one would put poop inside of their private parts.
In the ancient Egyptian day, crocodile dung mixed with honey was smeared inside intimate parts to prevent them from getting pregnant.
In other parts of Africa and the Middle East, people prefer elephant poop over crocodile dung.
The worse part here is today’s science proves that this was something that makes sense.
Elephant poop has an extremely high alkaline PH which acts as an effective spermicide.
Who could have performed the act of love while there was some sort of poop present — we should thank God for this kind of disgusting practice.
Female Genital Mutilation A Practice That Is Still In Practice
This is perhaps the darkest and worse of the list; FGM is a procedure that started a long time ago and which is still in practice in many places around the world.
FGM procedure started when ancient Romans pushed some sort of clasp up the female slave’s intimate parts to prevent them from having any kind of intercourse.
This practice of surgical infibulation of women became much more popular, and it became known as pharaonic circumcision and later became known as Sudanese circumcision in Egypt — people from many cultures in many countries still practice the procedure.
In some countries, certified doctors assist with the procedure, sometimes with anesthesia and sometimes without.
The part which makes all this a whole lot worse is the person who performs the procedure often uses the same contraption on more than 30 different women, which often becomes the reason for various diseases.
The Stuttering Solution From the 18th Century
The stuttering solution is the least sexist amongst the others on the list, and the procedure was limited to not only women but also men who had the tendency to stutter.
Living in 2022, if we see someone stutter, we attribute it to anxiety or speech impediment; however, such was not the case in those days.
During the 18th and some part of the 19th-century medical practitioners performed surgery on people who stuttered.
This was known as hemi-glossectomy — in this surgery, a portion of a patient’s tongue would be removed.
Cutting a portion of the tongue was believed to be the cure for stuttering — in many cases, a person bled to death. A surgery like hemi-glossectomy is still practiced but only in severe cases like cancer.
Final Words
We women have been through a lot throughout history, and we thank God for the time in which we are living.
Today medical science is better than ever before, which not only makes our lives much more hygienic but also more livable as women.
