Alaric furrows his brows. “I’ll tell you, but you have to do something for me.”
He sits in the flickering candlelight, his features distorted by the shadows. Without the shackles, Alaric would look less like a prisoner and more like a villain.
“What can I do?” You point at the wound on your right shoulder. “You’re not his only captive.”
Alaric opens his mouth to speak, but his eyes widen at the sight of your chest.
You tug at your tunic, following his gaze to the skin around your injury. Crimson veins ripple outward like a never-ending spiderweb…
