DRABBLE STORY ARC #2: SEEK AND AVENGE
A Moment of Respite
Part of a ‘choose your own’ story — drabble edition.

This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. You can check out Chapter 1 of this story: The Burned Village. Find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here, or check the previous chapter: ‘Wayward Whispers’, by J.C. Lovero.
The prisoner closes his eyes and breathes in, the smell of sweat and dust thick in the air. “I thought it was just me.”
You shake your head, and — for a moment — the voices disappear. As you slump to the ground, the tightness in your chest eases as cool rock rubs against your back.
The wind howls outside, a lonely accompaniment to the silence. Yet, a welcome change to buried memories of the burned village.
“Everything okay?”
You give a slight dip of your chin.
“I’m Alaric,” the prisoner says. “I wish I could say ‘nice to meet you.’”
