Creating A Book Cover For A Poetry Book “Moments of Eternity”

How would you want your cover to look like?

Well, of course, first you have to have the book. I do have this amazing book. I have read it, edited it, and formatted it for many weeks. It is going under review by beautiful and amazing people right now. Have all the 150 amazing poems in it from Medium Poets in Dancing Elephants Press Publication. The book is sensational.

Next, you have to read the poems to get a feel for what the cover need to convey. Yes. check that many times. You can also read these beautiful poems they are all on Medium as well.

Next, had to think about the title, since the title is so precious “Moments of Eternity”. The cover has to be delicate and beautiful.

It starts with choosing an image. This was hard and not. I had amazing images from a beautiful creator, writer, and editor Annelise Lords. Annelise allowed me to choose a picture from a great variety of heart images she sent me.

I landed on the one below. I felt like it conveyed the delicate balance of life and eternity. I love this image so much. I look at this image and it makes my heart flower.

Next, it was time to choose the program where I want to create the cover. I was going between Canva and Paint and decided on Paint.

First, I changed the layout of my paper, then I added the image above. Now it was time to decide on the font, the font color, and where to add my elephant.

I wanted the font colors to be different on the top and the bottom to have a little variety and yet remain similar to the color scheme of the flowers.

I never know what font I will use I try different ones until one feels right.

I also changed the whole background of the image to a gentle purple which made the glass a purple tone as well.

The publication and publishing company is Dancing Elephants Press and I have to add an Elephant. It is not the same without one. I wanted the elephant to blend in with the colors of the cover and I added some pink to purple color and texture to the elephant's body. The texture is added in small increments until I felt it was enough.

One fun piece of feedback was that the elephant looks like it might be wearing pajamas. I love it. I love people’s imaginative minds play.

I also wanted the elephant to look like it is smelling the flowers and it is ready to reach for one. I also had to play with the rotation of the elephant so she is partially turned on her side.

I was pretty happy with the results.

Next, I sent it out to my editors for feedback and had some discussion about it. I also sent it out to our WhatsApp group for feedback.

Now, I am writing this article and showing the world this cover to see what people think.
