SIX-WORD PHOTO STORY
Connected and Remembered
October Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Collections”
Every bracelet holds a loving memory.
I’ve never been a bling-bling girl. While I’ve surely had my time wearing jewelry, it was never really representing myself. Until I embarked on the famous journey where I lost more than just my heart to the African continent.
In Ghana, I started covering my wrist in bracelets and it hasn’t seen sunshine ever since. I don’t take my bracelets off. Unless they break. That’s the circle of life. My jewelry life.
I wear my bracelets day and night. They are souvenirs from city trips, month-long stays in a country, or simply memories of living in a foreign culture. Some are presents from others. Like the one of my babysitting children over 7 years ago. Or the bracelet from my student.
And my current collection includes bracelets from three continents and several countries. They come and go. Some stay longer. Some shorter.
Ghana — Tanzania — Namibia — Thailand — Germany — Italy — Portugal — Poland
These bracelets didn’t cost more than a sandwich. But they mean so much to me.
It’s my collection of memories.
This is a writing prompt response to the October challenge inspired by Sandi Parsons: “Collections: October Prompt”
