Congratulations Graduates
Fun Facts Friday — Graduation Edition

My daughter is graduating tomorrow, which I cannot believe is possible because I believe she started walking yesterday, and I blinked and then time traveled or something because I know I sure did not age a bit… well I guess I did. Okay, I will write that story another day, but back to the fun facts on graduation before I get too mushy about Morgan growing up so fast.
Do you know?
1. The tossing of the hat at the end of the ceremony symbolizes the flight of what awaits the future of the graduates. Yes… I am already crying. (Grab your tissues friends!) 2. Cords with tassels represent a level of learning. 3. Less than half of college students graduate on time. Even less than that after six years. 4. Gap years reduce the rates for graduation. Students who attend college straight from high school are 50% more likely to graduate with a bachelor’s degree within six years than someone who takes a break before attending college. 5. In December 2021, 4.8% of college graduates were unemployed. Graduation is an emotional time for me, as a parent. I am beyond proud of my daughter. Her accomplishment is exceptional as I have mentioned in previous articles, but all graduates have earned bragging rights in my book.
This is a huge step in their journey. They are now stepping into the real world. That comes with great responsibility. Shit is about to get real, pardon my language. You know, I feel like as young adults we all rush to grow up and yet once we get there, we wish we could go back to the good ol’ days.
My wish for my daughter is this:
- Enjoy each moment life throws at you — both the good and the bad. Take chances.
- Do not be afraid of failure, that is how we all learn.
- Know that I am always with you, no matter how far away we may be.
- Let no one tell you “You cannot do something”.
- Never give up on your dreams. In fact, dream bigger.
- Keep your eye on your vision but stay focused on the present moment.
- Set small, medium, and large goals and reward yourself for meeting those goals.
- Keep a tight budget and stick with it.
- Set boundaries.
- Love, honor, and respect yourself.
- Remember to work hard but play hard too. Keep life balanced.
Okay, kiddo… Let’s do this!
Congratulations to ALL of the graduates and the families of those hard-working students.
