Thrifty Words 100 Challenge #10: Zombies
Shuffling. They’re shuffling, she thinks as she watches the grey men walk up to the lectern.
Why five? Safety in numbers?
They all look the same. Bland. Bland clothes. Bland faces. Bland hair. She longed for colour in the shape of women.
She sees a flash from the corner of her eye. Long dark hair. Pink. Yellow. Spiked orange hair. Red lips. Flowing green. Dusty lilac.
The blands look scared. Terrified. They age in front of her. Breaking. Flaking. Their skin turns to ash. Piles of grey fabric are all that’s left.
Then the colour posse arrives.
About bloody time!
Zombies. They’ve certainly captured people’s imaginations. But aren’t there zombies walking amongst us? Those grey, bland, suited, faceless blobs that often inhabit large buildings, en masse, with fat bank balances?
Call me cynical, but there seem to be many inhabiting the halls of the Australian Parliament right now. I’m an ex-pat, sure, but internet! The political shitstorm happening in Australia right now needs to happen. A huge colourful, multi-ethnic, invigorating, young, passionate broom needs to sweep out the grey-suited zombie pack.
