Colors of Autumn
Flowers of the world

It’s raining. The wind has been blowing all day long. It’s been like this for a few days now. Guess that’s what autumn has to offer right now. But that won’t push me down. I got lots of ideas to write about and things to do to stay active.
With Dennett’s writing prompt she inspired me to write three articles already. With one single topic. OctoColorFest. Find the colors and make something creative out of it.
My first response was a 13-minute read that was written in one flow. A collection of colorful memories of my life. I got some complains about it. How I dared to keep it that short. I should have kept ongoing. I have to apologize. I thought nobody will take the time and read until the end.
So here’s my next response. I went again and searched in my folders for colorful moments. Flowers from all over the world I found.
South Africa

In 2015 I went on a road trip through the southernmost country on the African continent. I drove past some stunning places and wanted to stop more often than it was possible on the tiny winding roads. I drove up some unknown mountain pass where I found this beauty at the top of the pass.

Later in the week I reached the ocean and drove along the beautiful rustic coastline of the Garden Route. The Town of Knysna stayed in my head. Not only because I mispronounced it for over a year, but also because loved its scenic location on the ocean surrounded by stunning cliffs.

In 2017 a friend of mine went on holiday for a trip to South Africa. Living in the neighboring country of Namibia I took the chance to see them for a couple of days. One of those days we drove up the coast in order to see some whales. While knowing that it is very rare to see them at that time of the year I much rather wandered around in nature taking pictures of flowers and other little beauties.
Belgium

In 2016 a friend of mine from Namibia traveled back with me to Germany and we went on a road trip through Europe for a few weeks. We visited friends of ours in different parts of the country of Belgium. One of our stops was in the countryside on the border to Germany. We stayed in a lovely farmhouse in the forest. This is where I captured these lovely flowers in early spring.
Germany

Not really remembering being in springtime in Germany that year I do remember that it was the first visit of my partner to Germany. It was his first time meeting my family. He was very nervous which was everything else but not necessary. They all get along with each other very well which makes me happy obviously.
Malaysia

While living in Thailand for a year we did a few trips within the country and to the neighboring countries. On one of those trips I went and visited the Perdana Botanical Gardens in the capital of Kuala Lumpur. An astonishing variety of colorful flowers was awaiting me.

I took a stroll through the park and took hundreds of pictures of this lovely spot in nature in the middle of a highly populated city. I kind of forgot I was still in the city while I was walking around.

Within the Botanical Garden, there are lots of smaller areas dedicated to a specific flower or animal species. I went and explored some flower gardens to take a few nice photographs of the blooming beauties.

The same as with the birds I just don’t know any names of the flowers I took photographs of. Maybe something to remember for future expeditions. When planning on writing about them I should maybe take notes of their names.

Namibia

Namibia doesn’t have seasons as we know them in Europe, but it does have different seasons as well. Whilst they talk about raining and dry seasons in the inland they do talk about winter and summer along the coast. And there’s a time of the year where all the flowers start to bloom. Even though it rarely ever rains in the coastal town of Swakopmund the flowers do know when it’s springtime.
Austria

Austria always reminds me of the holiday. Either a skiing or a hiking holiday. That’s the two activities I’m doing in the country covered by the alps. Hiking in the alps offers you some breathtaking views across mountain ranges and valleys where you got to sit down for a bit in order to take in the beauty.

Flowers are part of Austria’s spring and summer where the open fields are shining in all different colors. Taking those flowers in front of the magic views gives you a new perspective on the beauty of life.
Germany

Visiting my parents for a short period of time in September last year I got to see the majestic sunflowers in their garden. Far above two meters tall and huge flowers in full bloom. Sunflowers are always worth stopping at. Have a look, embrace its beauty, and enjoy the sunshine it brings into your day.

Alpine roses are one of my favorite flowers in the mountains. Despite the fact that I actually do not favor the color of pink at all I still love seeing them in nature. They aren’t very big or very pretty. But you can make a delicious tea out of them and they can color entire mountain ranges with their beauty.
I hope you enjoyed my blooming trip throughout the world and I invite you to join the writing prompt of Weeds & Wildflowers.
