1. My Name Is Debbie and I Am a Queen
I am royalty. A Queen in my own right. I reign from my throne in a wheelchair. During my reign, I have swerved, and tripped, and fell under the weight of my crown. My life and the lives of my subjects, though, can attest to the power of love to right any wrongs, heal broken hearts, and fill the trenches of pain.
2. The Practice of Breathing Prayer Can Change Your Life
Since time immemorial people have prayed. But what is prayer? It is simply communication with the Creator. Prayer is central to all religions and faiths at all times in all times. However, when I paired my prayers with my breath, something changed. Prayer became a part of me! Just as we can’t live without breathing physically, we can’t live without breathing spiritually. Go ahead, give Breath Prayers a try.
3. Kamala Harris Is a Light Shining in the Darkness for All Girls in America
Almost two months ago, I listened to Kamala Harris’s speech to the Democratic National Convention when she accepted the nomination to be the 2020 Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate. I sat in awe of this powerful woman who will potentially walk beside the next President of the United States. She is a role model on the path to greatness for my daughters and granddaughters to see.
4. My Love Affair Is Not Easy
My love affair is thirty-three years in the making. Almost half of my life and five kids later. Technically, only two children; I had three from a previous marriage. We were running from things when we ran into each other. You may ask, how did we stay with one another? My only answer is a commitment to the one you love. And leave a place in your heart for forgiveness.
5. I Want to Sing and Dance My Happiness but I Cannot
I like to be happy. Happiness is my favorite state of being. It is hard to contain. Shutting happy up inside can be disastrous to your well-being. How might you ask? Well, if you do not allow the flame of happiness to glow and grow, it will fizzle and die. And you will sink into depression which will also affect your physical body. The answer? Express your happiness — sing and dance. Even if you can’t.
6. What Choni, The Circle Maker, Taught Me About Writing
Choni drew a circle around himself in the middle of a crowd and prayed for rain determined to not move until his request was granted. He taught me to take a stand and I drew a circle in the middle of my crowd. I urge others to do the same. Together we can encourage, inspire, and empower each other to believe in ourselves.
7. How to Maintain Your Well-Being During a Pandemic
We are living in an unprecedented time of anxiety and illness in the COVID-19 world. People are suffering, worried, and losing hope. We are looking this way and that for answers that seem to elude us. We see it all around us, in the news, with our friends, and even in our families. Awareness is the key to our wholeness. Hopefully, my approach will help you integrate all aspects of yourself to live a life of joy and well-being!
