Check Out Vivo’s New Foldable Phone

Vivo is creating some competition for Samsung.

As I mentioned in my previous stories, Samsung has long been the reigning champion in the world of foldable phones. Its Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 have taken the top two spots in our best foldable phones guide, but that could change soon.

OPPO’s Find N2 Flip has gained steam and is now our third choice for the best folding phone. And now, another contender is coming from the same stable.

OPPO’s sister brand, Vivo, is set to launch its first clamshell-style Android phone, the Vivo X Flip. According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the phone is due to launch very soon, and if the rumored specs are accurate, it could be another interesting rival to Samsung’s Flip.

So, what can we expect from the Vivo X Flip? According to the tipster, the phone will be pretty similar to the OPPO Find N2 Flip, with a 6.8-inch folding OLED display delivering a Full HD+ resolution of 2,520 x 1,080.

The aspect ratio is a wide 21:9, and the refresh rate will be a smooth 120Hz, as is typical for premium folding phones. There is reportedly a small hole-shaped cutout for the selfie camera.

On the back of the phone, we’re told there will be a twin camera bump featuring a 50MP Sony IMX866 and a 12MP ultra-wide IMX633. Inside, there’s a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It’s unclear whether there will be other versions with more storage.

Other reported specs include a decent-sized 4,400mAh battery, 44W wired charging, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and the obligatory USB-C. However, there is currently no information on whether this will be a Chinese or global model.

In recent years, some impressive Android phones have been China-only, with only a few making their way onto the world stage. Additionally, there is no information on the phone’s price.

It is worth noting that the OPPO Find N2 Flip has a UK RRP of £849, compared to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4’s RRP of £999. This suggests that the Vivo X Flip will likely come in well below the price of its closest Samsung equivalent.

The Vivo X Flip will be Vivo’s first foray into foldable phones. The clamshell design is reminiscent of older flip phones, which were popular in the early 2000s.

Nevertheless, the folding screen brings the design up to date, making it a nostalgic yet modern choice for those looking for something different.

Foldable phones have been around for a few years, but they have not gone mainstream. The high price tag is a significant barrier for many consumers, and there are still concerns about the durability of the folding screens. But, as more companies enter the market, the prices will likely decrease, making them more accessible to the general public.

Samsung has dominated the foldable phone market for a while, but the competition is heating up. OPPO’s Find N2 Flip has been a popular choice among consumers, and the Vivo X Flip could be another contender.

Whether the Vivo X Flip will be a Chinese-only model or will be available globally remains to be seen. But if the rumored specs are accurate, it could be an exciting addition to foldable phones.

Final Words

While Samsung may still be ruling the roost in the world of foldable phones, it may soon face stiff competition.

The OPPO Find N2 Flip has gained steam, and now the Vivo X Flip will debut.
