Check Out This Crazy New FPS Game
The Finals is a brand-new shooter that looks absolutely chaotic.

In some of my past stories, I’ve chatted about all sorts of stuff related to FPS games. You can find those links below. But today, we’re diving into the crazy world of a brand new shooter game I’m totally stoked about — it’s called The Finals.
The Finals is this super-fast first-person shooter that’s all about that arcade-style gameplay and game-show vibes. The big deal here is that you can wreck everything in sight — I’m talking everything! Now, that’s a lot to digest, but once you’ve had your share of rounds, it all starts to make sense and can be a real blast, assuming the game isn’t all stuttery and buggy.
So, the scoop on The Finals is that you’re basically a contestant on this virtual combat game show, battling it out for fame, cash, and those sweet sponsorships.
The developers at Embark Studios were inspired by stuff like The Hunger Games and Gladiator, creating an arena-style showdown. You can customize your own competitor, which is pretty neat, although the choices are somewhat limited.
The action in The Finals goes down on real-world maps with ever-changing times of day and weather, like fog or rain. Each new game, it’s a surprise.
Now, if you’re in tournament mode, it’s like regular matches, but with an extra knockout round. The top two winners from each lobby move up the ranks until one team emerges as the ultimate victor. These matches tend to run a bit longer, but they’re tournament-style, so that’s the deal.
Oh, and to spice things up, there are announcers commentating on the game, shouting out when teams get wiped or when some random event kicks in. It keeps the suspense up and prevents campers from hiding out too long.
But The Finals isn’t your typical battle royale. You’ve got respawns, either on a timer or from your teammates reviving you. You get two respawns per person in standard quickplay matches, but in tournaments, you can earn an extra one if you make it to the next round.
Now, here’s where things get wild: you can pick up just about anything in the game world. Think flammable canisters, toxic gas, and The Finals’ signature Goo containers. These Goo containers, grenades, and guns create this funky, cloud-like wall for cover. Cool, right? But I didn’t find myself using them too often.
The most incredible thing about The Finals is that absolutely everything can be blown to bits. Walls, buildings, new Goo stuff — it’s all fair game. And everyone in the same lobby sees the same destruction. This sets The Finals apart from your run-of-the-mill shooters. You don’t need to worry about careful positioning or sneaky breaches.
Here, you can bust through anywhere. There’s no safe spot, and that’s what makes The Finals a total blast. It’s chaotic and keeps you on your toes. No more hiding in corners when you can just blast through the walls and catch your foes by surprise.
But, let’s not kid ourselves; there are pros and cons to this level of chaos. On one hand, you can send your enemies into panic mode as you obliterate their cover. On the other, you might find yourself in a mess where you can’t see a thing.
It can be overwhelming, especially for new players trying to get the hang of things. With time, it might get easier, like with games such as Overwatch or Apex, but it can be quite a learning curve.
When it comes to the equipment, abilities, and competitors, it’s a mixed bag. You can customize your character and choose between three body builds, each with different speeds, health levels, and access to gear and abilities. The abilities and weapons are cool, but there’s a noticeable balance issue.

Some builds are just too good like the Light build with its tiny hitbox and speed. The Medium build’s healing ability is almost overpowered, making it super hard to die. The Heavy build, on the other hand, has a shield and a grenade launcher that can knock down anything. The lack of limits on class composition can make things a bit chaotic.
Final Words
In the end, The Finals is a unique and promising entry in the world of FPS games.
It has a ton of potential, but it’s got some work to do before it can stand toe to toe with the big FPS titles out there.
It’s a fun concept with lots of action, but the kinks need to be ironed out.
Let’s see where it goes after the beta and full release.
