Positive affirmation for the day — day 18– Being positive

This is part of a daily series about positive affirmations and how they can benefit our lives.
Affirmation of the day:
“Negative thoughts do not serve me anymore.”
Explanation
This is one of those binary things in life. One can be positive or negative. Of course, there is a spectrum, but on the meter of positivity, you want the needle as close to the positive range as possible.
The following makes reference to the Winnie The Pooh books by A. A. Milne, so if you have not come across them, the following link will explain. The fact that my explanation involves the use of a children’s story probably says much about my intellectual level!
The Eeyore syndrome
We probably all know an Eeyore. Everything is wrong. Every silver lining has a cloud, always snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. If they win £100 on the lottery they will bemoan it wasn’t a million. If it is raining first thing, they will expect it to rain all day. Always looking glum and downcast, moaning about their health, their lot in life, their bad luck.
Their catchphrase is probably “mustn’t grumble”. Except they do. Endlessly. You don’t want an Eeyore on your team. They drag everything down. They suck the energy out of the room. Eeyores are the epitome of negativity. Think of Victor Meldrew in “One Foot in the Grave”, always grumpy and complaining. Or Fraser in “Dad’s Army”: “We’re doomed”!
Fun, fun, fun
Or there are life’s Tiggers. Full of fun, fun, fun. Tiggers are full of life, smiles and good times. In the worst of situations, when it is chucking it down with rain and blowing a houlie, they will still be cracking jokes, making light of things.
Tiggers are the life and soul of a party, bringing sunshine and smiles to any room they enter. Tiggers grip life by the lapels and seize the day, they lick the lid of life. You want at least one Tigger on your team, ideally several (though in reality a good team has a range of character!).
Tiggers can get a little aggravating if you live with one 24/7, but given the choice, I would choose one any day over an Eeyore. Think of Bear Grylls, with his survival skills in the most challenging of environments, still hanging on to his motto, “Courage, kindness, and never give up”, while an Eeyore would have taken one look at the weather forecast and stayed in to watch something on Netflix.
To quote from one of the books:
“The wonderful thing about Tiggers Is Tiggers are wonderful things Their tops are made out of rubber Their bottoms are made out of springs They’re bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers Is I’m the only one Tiggers are cuddly fellas Tiggers are awfully sweet Everyone else is jealous That’s why I repeat and repeat The wonderful thing about Tiggers Is Tiggers are marvellous chaps They’re loaded with vim and with vigour They love to leap in your laps They’re jumpy, bumpy, clumpy, thumpy Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers Is I’m the only one I’m the only one.”
Choose life
So each day, start with a determination to be a Tigger, full of life and positivity. You will do much better for yourself, but more importantly, give so much more to everyone else.
The following are some quotes on being positive that may be helpful in finding inspiration:
“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.” Willie Nelson
“Accept yourself, love yourself, and keep moving forward. If you want to fly, you have to give up what weighs you down.” ― Roy T. Bennett, “The Light in the Heart”
“You’ve done it before and you can do it now. See the positive possibilities. Redirect the substantial energy of your frustration and turn it into positive, effective, unstoppable determination.” Ralph Marston
“Be mindful. Be grateful. Be positive. Be true. Be kind.” ― Roy T. Bennett, “The Light in the Heart”
“There are plenty of difficult obstacles in your path. Don’t allow yourself to become one of them.” Ralph Marston
So make the choice: be a Tigger, not an Eeyore. Make your days full of fun, fun, fun!
