Summary

Joe Lee and Favio, characters in a science fiction narrative, plan to merge their essences to materialize as a new being to fulfill their destiny with Amanda, a Bdelian like them, who is unaware of her true identity.

Abstract

In Chapter 8 of an experimental writing project titled "Area 42, Codeword: Cracker 10," the characters Joe Lee and Favio are engaged in a profound metamorphosis. They are preparing to combine their energies into a single form to become the destined partner for Amanda, a woman who has recently discovered her Bdelian heritage. The chapter delves into their philosophical discussion about identity and existence, highlighting the ethereal nature of their current state and the crystal that symbolizes their shared essence. The narrative unfolds with a poetic exchange between the two, revealing their understanding that they are merely halves of a whole and that their true power lies in their unity. The chapter concludes with the imminent transformation of Joe Lee and Favio into a new, unified entity, ready to reveal themselves to Amanda and embark on a new adventure.

Opinions

  • Joe Lee and Favio express a sense of incompleteness, feeling that they are "missing half the program," which drives their desire to merge into one complete being.
  • The characters believe in a deeper connection that transcends their individual identities, referring to themselves as vibrating with the same crystal as Amanda, suggesting a shared spiritual or metaphysical bond.
  • There is a humorous acknowledgment of the absurdity and vulnerability of their situation, as they liken their current form to "green dicks" and worry about offending Amanda.
  • The characters show a willingness to sacrifice their individuality for a greater purpose, demonstrating their commitment to their destiny and to Amanda, who they believe is their true counterpart.
  • The narrative implies a critique of the human tendency to categorize and separate when, in fact, the characters argue that all Bdelians are interconnected facets of a larger whole.
  • The author reflects on the writing process, noting the serendipitous timing of communication with their co-author, Adelia Ritchie, which adds a meta-layer to the storytelling, blurring the lines between the narrative and the authors' reality.

Joe Lee and Favio wax poetic, plan to materialize as somebody new

This is Chapter 8 of a free form experiment of “tennis” writing with my pal Adelia Ritchie, PhD, who has at last realized that she is not just human, but Bdelian as well. And it’s time for her to see the love letter from Joe Lee and Favio:

Dearest Amanda. When you read this we will be in the form field, combining our energy into one. The man who appears from the sum of us is your destiny, we’re half and half, neither real nor misty fields that look like green dicks. But here’s the secret of Bdelia: We all vibrate with the same crystal, and you’re a facet like we are. Come with us out into the stars.

Five minutes earlier:

“She was born to be Bdelian. She is a Bdelia.”

“I’m feelin’ ya,” said Joe Lee, “this transparency is so … “

“Airy?” Favio asked, “would you say we’re fairies? Without weight and all?”

Joe Lee said “No, we’re just missing half the program.”

Fabio said, “Damn right, but between the two of us there’s enough juice to make just one of us, but it’s neither one of us, it’s somebody new.”

“You will be the death of me,” said Joe Lee, “but we have to be real to make Amanda take command of her destiny. She’s unaware her Bdelian identity is in the crystal she wears.”

Fabio said. “And us butt bare, not even socks and underwear. Making her love us in this condition is as unlikely as a fish with erudition.”

“And, we look like dicks, Joe Lee. She’ll be offended. So I agree, we have to sacrifice individuality for a Bdelian not yet known, so go on, fire up the force field and let’s get it on.”

“Goodbye, Favio, it’s been a hoot, though we’re really already two guys in one suit.”

“Adios, Joe Lee, to this configuration. Is it imagination, all in our head we’re more than computers?

Flavio said, “Fuck it. Go ahead. Reboot us.”

There was an interesting synchronicity today, as I got an email from Adelia at the very moment I was going to send one to her with the above verse. We had decided to do this one in a combination of prose and poetry. She had just posted Chapter 7, as I finished chapter 8. Who will the fully materialized man be? And what adventure lies in store in Bdelia for the farmer’s wife?
