Area 42, Figments are Elemental
Ch. 6: Singularities in the field are entangled but not recorded

This is the sixth chapter of a science fiction romp coauthored by Adelia Ritchie, PhD. What seemed like unearthing coaxial cable turned into tragedy for aliens coming in for a landing on a coastal farm. The alien landing site is powered by a crystal which has now fallen into the hands of Amanda, and under its influence she has been led into the underworld, and through a passageway at the end of which there is a white light.
The trouble with thinking about alien intelligence is that without a metaphor, we can’t make heads or tails of anything. That’s why String Theory is so hard to explain. It’s not really “like” anything else. We create aliens with bodies like ours, with cosmetic changes, or as some variation on, or combinations of, animals or insects, but this is the earth in disguise trying to scare itself. Joe Lee and Flavio first appear as figments of imagination, which is to say, they are elemental. Search for a figment and you find it is not real by definition, and search for what’s real and you’ll find it’s what has been recorded. Singularities are not recorded, they are entangled. One joke, one time. The humor remains. It is the pleasure of playing with multiple lines of logic to make art. At the intersections are the singularities. These points of intersection are entangled though they move away from each other in different directions.
Inside the dark drive, it’s all singularities all the time, like a monk’s brain when you ring a bell.
This is how Joe Lee and Flavio travel. When we first met them they could not be seen when looked at. They could only be seen in the peripheral vision, and they looked like dildos. They were born as figments, which is why they can’t be seen directly, head on, like watching the highway in the headlights. You can’t really see a Bdelian, you see a figment. You know one is there because you feel the energy, and because of the nature of this particular energy you see a green dildo. The ego dismisses it as sexual innuendo about a sex toy, because it has lost touch with the sacred, where green is the earth mother, and the phallus is her creation.
We rejoin Flavio and Joe Lee in an underground bunker beneath the garden of Amanda’s farm. Being half formed is neither good nor bad for a Bdelian, but it meant they were going to have to hire somebody to repair the materialization field.
They would have to rely on voice communication, as their fingers could hold only imaginary things.
The materializing process began with the penis shaped figment, and the body was formed around it.
The bodies had begun the process but not gotten far enough along with it to disguise the original shape. Joe Lee and Flavio were not just ghosts, they were more like dicks in suits. But here again there is an evolution underway because after a surface absorption of personality a materializing Bdelian begins to acquire depth. “Superb,” Joe Lee said. “What’s superb?” Flavio asked. “We graduated from being dildos to being tribal totems in no time. I’d say we’re close enough to fully uploaded we can function on earth as we do in heaven.” From the passageway Amanda was overhearing at least some of the conversation. She’d heard enough to know she was right in thinking there was something odd about her, that there always had been. She was moving along on one line of logic which had just been intersected by another one. It was her also. Luckily she had a high tolerance for ambiguity as she remembered she was someone else as well.
Will Amanda go toward the light at the end of the passageway, which, ironically perhaps, is the dark drive? Or will she follow the passionate plea from moviegoers everywhere, and get the fuck out of there while she can? And what happens to a girl when she’s abducted by Bdelians? Back to you, Adelia.
