As King Charles III Ascends to the Throne, Is He His Brother’s Keeper

Prince Andrew the Duke of York will continue to be a counsellor of state

Whenever Prince Andrew’s name is mentioned what follows is the name he no longer wanted to be associated with, that of sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The same must be true of Bill Gates whose association with Epstein, was the last straw for his ex-wife Melinda Gates, which soon led to their divorce.

All it takes is one big blunder and it forever tarnishes your reputation, but Epstein wasn’t a blunder or a result of a bad decision.

To call Epstein a friend, an associate, or a confidante even after his first conviction as with Bill Gates is a loss of one’s moral compass and with Prince Andrew, it was alleged that he had sex with a minor.

Virginia Giuffre, his accuser as seen in the photo above was then a 17-year-old girl.

At that time it allegedly happened in 2001, Prince Andrew was already divorced from his wife Fergie, but he was also a man in his 40s.

The Queen’s favorite

While he may be the Queen’s favorite, the queen has always been ready to protect the monarchy even at the expense of personal grief. As it was after Prince Andrew was stripped of his royal and military titles.

The Queen had weathered a lot of controversies most of whom were never of her own making, but that of the other royals.

And in the twilight years of her life, she even had to deal with Prince Harry and his wife Meghan when they did the controversial Oprah interview.

Explosive as the interview was, especially that it had shades of racism from an unnamed royal, many speculated was none other than his father, Prince Charles.

Not to mention that Meghan’s mental health was suffering, it totally blindsided the Queen who was at that time 94 years old.

For the Queen what should have been private, was made public while she was dealing with her dying spouse, Prince Philip who true enough a month after the Oprah interview, died.

We were all suffering during the pandemic, Meghan, the Queen, and the billions of people around the world.

So while I would like to be sympathetic to Meghan, my heart bled for the Queen.

King Charles III his brother’s Keeper

Death is the great equalizer but it can also bring about the worse in everyone. A leaky pen and King Charles III was already seen to be losing his temper, and a similar video in which he appeared to let’s say, be a not-so-nice king, even grumpy.

And many are willing to give the new King some time to get used to everything he was preparing for, for decades — to be the King after the death of his mother.

And yet when this incident happened, a man was arrested for ‘heckling’ Prince Andrew, and the public is divided.

Does Prince Andrew deserve to be treated with respect considering that while his sexual abuse allegations were never proven in court, the Prince settled with his accuser for a sum that was said to be in the millions of dollars?

And another trending issue — many are already questioning King Charles III's decision to ‘appoint’ a counsellor of state, meaning an official stand-in for when his brother King Charles III is unable to perform duties.

The counsellors of state roles are enshrined by the Regency Acts 1937–53.

And based on the criteria that the counsellor should be at least 21 years of age, the five ‘stand-ins’ for King Charles III are:

  1. Camilla,

2. Prince William,

3. Duke of Sussex

4. Duke of York and

5. Beatrice

To set the record straight, the list is in accordance with the law, and not by Charles.

So, all these yacking on Twitter, well they had better read the law first.

Final words

The Queen is dead, long live the King! It will take a while before the British public will fully embraces the idea of having a new monarch.

King Charles III will commit many more blunders, and he at 73 years old is already set in his ways.

As for Prince Andrew, some reports say he is the designated dog caretaker of the queen’s dogs.

He is unlikely to be back as a senior royal, even if he is the brother of the new King.

Charles, like his mother, is bound to protect the institution.

And as for Charles becoming his brother’s keeper like in the biblical story, of Abel and Cain, remains to be seen.

Maybe we will all be surprised by Charles’s action toward Prince Andrew who likes the leaky pen, he would throw away the prince even if he is his brother.
