Summary

Jack Heimbigner is embarking on a challenge to write a book on fatherhood by blogging daily throughout August, aiming to publish the compiled posts as an ebook on Amazon.

Abstract

Jack Heimbigner has decided to participate in the BYOB (Blog Your Own Book) project, inspired by Shaunta Grimes, which involves writing a book in the form of blog posts over 31 days. He plans to focus on the topic of fatherhood, drawing from his personal experience as a father of three and his intentional approach to parenting. Despite acknowledging the difficulty of writing consistently and transforming those writings into a book, Jack is committed to sharing his insights and experiences to help other fathers. He intends to write between 500 to 1000 words daily, with the content eventually becoming a 28-day guide on fatherhood. Jack will publish most of his posts in his publication, The Dad Hammer Pub, and invites readers to follow his journey, whether they are aspiring writers, fathers seeking improvement, or simply curious about his endeavor. He also encourages others to join the challenge, providing a link to Shaunta's original post for those interested.

Opinions

  • Jack believes that the most challenging part of writing a book is starting and completing the first draft, with publishing becoming relatively easier in the current age.
  • He views the BYOB project as both a fun idea and a valuable opportunity to produce a first draft of a book through daily blogging.
  • Jack is not positioning himself as an expert but rather as a dedicated father who wishes to share his journey and learnings with others.
  • He anticipates that the process will not only challenge him to reflect on his own fatherhood experiences but also hopes it will be a source of useful knowledge for other fathers.
  • Jack emphasizes that he wants his book to be straightforward and helpful, distinguishing it from more complex literature on fatherhood.
  • He finds the idea of blogging a book to be an exciting challenge and is eager to see the end result, while also acknowledging the difficulty of the process.
  • Jack is enthusiastic about encouraging others to join the challenge, offering to follow their progress as well.

BYOB Project: Blogging A Book Intro Reality

Because I love a good challenge.

I might regret doing this.

But I am going to do it anyway.

Recently, I heard of a fun project/challenge by Shaunta Grimes. She is challenging for people to blog a book in 31 days. During the month of August, she and others around her will be writing blog posts that will be parts of a book intended to be published.

As I continue to read her posts encouraging others I could not help but decide to do this too.

I think this is a great idea. In fact, it is so easy for people to publish books now, that the hardest part is getting started and writing the first draft. Once you have the first draft done, you have done most of the work.

So, what will I write about?

Fatherhood

I have been kicking around the idea for a small ebook only on fatherhood. Why? Because I love fatherhood. I think there is so much for dads to learn about fatherhood.

While I am not an expert by any means, I do have three children of my own. And I am unusually intentional with my approach to fatherhood and life.

I also know this book will be a challenge. To write a post a day for a month is hard. To do it and turn it into a book will be difficult too. However, I think it will challenge me to examine my own efforts in fatherhood as I hope to share them with others.

Fatherhood is the topic. My goal is to write 500 to 1000 words a day on fatherhood which will turn into a 28-day experience in my book. And at the end, I will put it all together, do some editing, create a cover, and put it up on Amazon.

What to Expect (If You Care to Follow Along)

What you will see from me is a fatherhood post nearly every day. Sometimes two if I miss a day or two here and there. I will publish most of them with my publication: The Dad Hammer Pub, though some posts will go to other pubs as well.

I hope you will follow along, and here’s why:

  • If you are a writer wanting to become a published author, watch how easy it is to do this.
  • If you are a father wanting to be a better father, you will learn something along the way.
  • If you think I am crazy, watch as I spill my insanity all over the internet.

Most of all, I simply want this book to be useful and helpful to fathers. I don’t want it to be overly complicated. There are plenty of complicated fatherhood books out there. If I can share some knowledge that will build of fathers around the world, then I have done my job.

Want to Join Me and Others?

If this sounds fun and interesting to you, here is Shaunta’s post that got me started on the idea. Read every one of them she has to date before you commit. I am positive this will be a difficult process.

Yet, I am sure it will be super fun and exciting to see a finished product at the end. So, want to join me? Let me know if you are so I can follow along with you too!
