This Simple Productivity Technique Is Also The Most Powerful One
This is the only productivity tip that you need today
I’ve tried hundreds, if not thousands of productivity hacks over my lifetime. I read something, dissect it, and then try it out. Sometimes things work really well. Other times they only make matters worse.
Once, I tried scheduling every minute of my day in order to make every minute count:
I made it 30 minutes and then my schedule was messed up by a little old lady from the state of Oregon who wanted to tell me all about her kids. She was so nice and clearly lonely, I couldn’t get her off the phone.
Turns out, not all productivity tips aren’t created equally.
Which makes sense, right? Productivity differs from person to person, job to job, task to task. Sure, there are a lot of techniques which are helpful for a lot of people, but never for everyone.
Until now.
The One Productivity Technique You Can Start Doing Today
“Do one small thing.” — Darius Foroux, Forge
This is the simplest productivity technique to help you improve your workflow and get more done than any other tip, trick, or hack. It is the most powerful because anyone can do it at any time in their day.
This is the universal productivity technique. No matter what job you do, who you are, or what tasks you have to do at any time, this is the one technique that works for every situation.
It works like this:
- You get to your workstation.
- And you do one small thing.
- Then you do it again and again and again.
It can also work like this:
- You get distracted by something or someone.
- And you come back to your work and do one small thing.
- Then you do it again and again and again.
Did I mention it can work like this?:
- You take a break and sit back down to your work.
- Then you do one small thing.
- And you do it again and again and again.
At this point, you get the picture. It is simple, easy, and repeatable. I have yet to find any situation it does not work.
Improvement With Every Task
“One percent improvements add up surprisingly fast.” — James Clear, How to Build a New Habit
This is why doing one small thing over and over again is so helpful. It adds up very quickly. After doing ten small things, you have momentum and have accomplished ten things.
When we get momentum, we begin to get more done. And we get it done much more quickly because we are simply doing one thing after another. As we improve our ability to complete one task after another our brains start to move through each task and decision more efficiently.
Every task you finish is a productive action.
So, every productive action is an improvement to your productivity. And it starts with this simple productivity technique, which is one of the most powerful things you can do to improve your productivity.
What are you waiting for? It is time to get started.
