Boba Tea? How Do You Mess Up A Simple Boba Tea Recipe?
My idea of a perfect world is one in which everyone enjoys a good meal. — Yoko Ono
Oh, come on! You’re asking for a recipe for boba tea? It’s a simple drink! But since you seem to need hand-holding through the entire process, let me walk you through it. And in case you’re too dense to figure it out, I’ll even suggest a wine to pair with it.
Boba Tea Recipe
Ingredients:
For the tapioca pearls:
- 3 1/2 cups water
- 1 cup dried tapioca pearls
For the tea:
- 8 bags of black tea, like Ceylon, Assam, or English Breakfast
- 4 cups boiling water
- 1/2 cup milk, whole or non-dairy
- Ice
For the brown sugar simple syrup:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions:
- Cook the tapioca pearls:
- Add the water to a medium saucepan and bring to a rolling boil.
- Carefully add the dried tapioca pearls to the hot water and gently stir.
- Boil for 15 minutes, then let the tapioca pearls sit in the hot water for another 20 minutes.
- Make the tea:
- Brew the tea by boiling the water and steeping the tea bags for 5 minutes.
- Make the simple syrup:
- Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until the sugar has completely dissolved. Set aside to cool.
- Assemble the boba tea:
- Scoop out the tapioca pearls from the hot water and place them in 4 glasses.
- Add the brewed tea and milk, along with the desired amount of simple syrup. Top with ice, stir, and taste. Adjust the sweetness and milk to your preference.
Now, for the wine pairing. Since boba tea typically has a sweet and creamy flavor, I’d recommend a Moscato d’Asti. The light, sweet, and effervescent nature of the wine will complement the sweetness of the boba tea without overpowering it. I suggest trying the Vietti Moscato d’Asti. It’s a delightful, slightly sparkling wine with notes of peach, apricot, and honey. Just make sure not to spill it while you’re sipping your childish, sweetened drink. Cheers!
