Moments of Eternity/Nature/Neighbourhood

Brew Your Beans and Press Refresh

Response to DEP prompt 30/52

Hand-sketched Nefelibata.in Monoreena

“What is the good of your stars and trees, your sunrise and the wind, if they do not enter into our daily lives?” — E.M Foster

Dear friends,

How have you been — Still, brewing your morning beans? Did you soak in the rising white, Witness the clouds paint the sky, Winglets shower happiness flying by?

Did the boughs greet you today Like it does to the passing breeze? Asked the whiff where it’s headed- Swishing away the surrounding gloom Stealing the fragrance of the fresh bloom?

What did that butterfly say to violet blues? Spreading her wings, a riot of hues Whispering coyly to that tiny floret Labouring softly, cavorting the mist Doodling secrets in the drift?

Did the dew caress your feet bare As you walk free, unaware? Brushy green nudging at your heels Like a toddler wobbling in glee Beating heart alive in prayer!

Did you hear that love-laced song The rains played for the brown? Taking the scorch in its wraps Drowning fervid loam with its lore Filling up the senses with petrichor?

Is that a screen saver in your laptop Shining bright as you re-boot? Look beyond the framed shots Walk a few meters, fill the dots Dance to the jingles, forget the naughts —

‘Cos Life’s nothing but a grinding mesh, Drench in its tunes, press Refresh!

Notes: The irony of modern life is that nature is what we discuss, write about even make our screen savers, but hardly find time to look up from our laptop and see a bird fly, a cloud float or leaves tremor to a passing breeze. Though a lot has changed in the last few years, we did not take time to go back to the grind.

Not that we had a choice. But we can still find recess and allow nature to be a part of our daily lives if we are observant about our surrounding. Even a smiling weed by the sidewalk while going to work can give a moment of joy when seen from a certain eye. — Soul-Bay/medium
