Breonna Taylor’s Life Mattered

How the Louisville police officers are held accountable for murder?

When I heard on the television news that the four police officers who murdered Breonna Taylor are being held accountable for her death, the news gave me solace that justice will be served.

With much hope that someone will pay for taking Breonna Taylor’s life, even in the face that nothing can bring her back but her murderers will see their day in court. As she lay in her bed, these officers let loose a round of shots with little thought to wrongfully shooting someone.

Karma is real and does not discriminate. The U.S. Justice Department has charged the four Louisville police officers, former officers, Joshua Jaynes, Brett Hankison, and current officer, Kelly Goodlett, and Sgt. Kyle Meany who was involved in the raid on Breonna Taylor’s apartment with civil rights violations, unconstitutional use of force, obstruction, and conspiracy.

More good news, the Louisville police are seeking to fire Goodlett and Meany. All are being charged with federal charges. These types of police officers are not concerned with protecting and serving the community and need to be off the street. Jail is a better option. When you choose your bed, you have to lay in it. When you do the crime, you do the time. Karma sees all.

Breonna Taylor died at the hands of these four officers because she was Black. If she was white, things would not have gone down in this manner. To these officers, Black lives didn’t matter, innocent or guilty. Breonna Taylor was in her bed. What threat did she pose to four officers with guns?

Taylor, a young Black 26-year-old medical worker had dreams for her career and was at the beginning of her life to start to see these dreams coming true. Four police officers snatched that away from her, her family, and all her good intentions for the community.

This innocent lady was shot dead, in March 2020 by these four Louisville officers who knocked down her door while issuing a search warrant. Executing a search warrant required all this massive shooting in and around Breonna’s apartment. Unbelievable.

Upon entering the home, Taylor’s boyfriend shot and hit one of the officers as they came through the door and they fired back, hitting Taylor multiple times. According to Taylor’s boyfriend, he thought someone was breaking and entering the apartment.

Breonna Taylor should be alive today. Her death was preventable if these trained four officers would have followed protocol and done the right thing for the community regardless of ethnicity. They are trained on how to handle themselves when issuing a warrant and how to interact as a police officer who is trained to protect and serve.

According to the media, they were serving the warrant at the wrong house and the person of interest was an ex-boyfriend of Breonna who lived in another house and a different area. Didn’t they do their homework or did they not care?

What justified these four officers going after a Black woman just because she once dated a guy? This is pure insanity. According to records or the news media, one of these four cops went around to the side of Breonna’s apartment and started firing away like being on a firing range trying to hit any target possible. As a matter of fact, one neighbor claimed a bullet pierced their walls. It is clear these officers had no respect for the community and its occupants.

According to the news media, prosecutors allege that Jaynes, 40, and Meany, 35, relied on “false, misleading and outdated information” in seeking the warrant. While Jaynes did not participate in Breonna’s apartment raid, he tried to pressure his colleagues to make misleading statements to investigators thereafter.

Sgt. Kyle Meany faces charges over Breoanna Taylor’s apartment raid that led to her death.

In conclusion, Dereck Chauvin sits behind bars for willfully taking George Floyd’s life, and now these four need to join him behind bars for taking Breonna’s life just because they could. Birds of a feather, flock together. Justice needs to be served in Breonna’s death.
