Black Man Subdued and Shot in the Back of the Head
How law enforcement targets Blacks for little to no reason, murdering too many.

Law enforcement around the country is in for a rude awakening. Defunding may not be the answer to the ills comprised in law enforcement around the country but something needs to be done about these paid vigilantes racist police officers.
Not all law enforcement officers are bad but I wish they could be more of a part of the solution and stand up against all these atrocities against humanity and particularly in Black communities. Unfortunately, a few good officers have voiced their opposition and were persecuted for doing so.
Operating by the illegal practices of yesterday is one of the reasons that excessive force has come to the forefront of all communities of color. There exist a large disparity between excessive force in white communities versus communities of color.
It appears the police around the country learned nothing from George Floyd’s senseless murder at the knee of Derek Chauvin who now sits behind bars. The world saw how law enforcement is out of control and is one of the main reasons there was a call and protest to defund the police.
Post and pre George Floyd, the killings have not stopped and in some cases escalated almost like a retaliation. Protect and serve is nowhere near many law enforcement’s racist agenda. Shoot and kill first, seem to be the order of the day for far too many law enforcement officers who have gotten away literally with murder and continue to do so.
Here we go again. A Grand Rapids, Michigan police officer shot in the back of the head and killed Patrick Lyoya, a black 26-year-old during a traffic stop as a struggle ensued. Check out the video on youtube. Could not post due to Youtube restrictions for age appropriateness.
The video showed the unnamed police officer on top of this Black man, on his back pinning him down as Patrick continually wiggled trying to get him off, and suddenly the officer pulled his gun and shot him in the back of the head on April 4, 2022. Next, he yelled at the crowd to stay back. A voice could be heard in the background regarding something about a taser.
A traffic stop should not end in death. What happened to innocent until proven guilty, or just issuing a summons for the wrong deed, not shooting because one is Black. When Black men fight back they end up dead, they don’t fight back they end up dead.
This murder was the result of a traffic stop gone wild where there was a foot chase and a fight over a stun gun based on what the video showed. Cameras don’t lie, they are like a mirror, it shows what it sees. The unnamed officer demanded Lyoya to let go of his taser. One video showed the taser was fired twice.
There was a passenger in the car with Lyoya who took the video of the altercation between the police and Lyoya in real-time. Also, there were three other videos released of the shooting in the back of the head from various sources.
Also, one video captured Lyoya running from the officer who stopped him for driving with an illegal license plate unrelated to the vehicle. Running from the officer, gave the officer time to try to deescalate the situation but the officer seemed a major part of the escalation that ended in death that didn’t have to be. For christ’s sake, it was a licensed plate.
Once a person is on another’s back, the one on the ground does not have the upper hand but the one on the top. How can this unnamed police officer not get this? Is it that easy, just to take a life because the person is black?
From the onset of the traffic stop, the video showed the situation was tense from the beginning of the stop. Lyoya once pulled over, exited the car, and ask the unnamed police officer what he had done wrong, but was ordered back in the car as he declined. When asked for his driver’s license, the foot chase began.
During the foot chase, assuming Lyoya was running from the officer, the officer had moments to reassess the situation as he had supposedly had training in such matters.
The use of force is disproportionally targeted against Black people. This is not just a Michigan problem, it is a national racist epidemic within law enforcement. Blacks are killed at a much higher rate than whites even as they comprise a smaller part of the population. Blacks account for less than 13 percent of the population but are killed at twice the rate of whites.
In conclusion, until law enforcement across the country, acknowledges that there exists a problem within their ranks, the problem will persist and perpetuate more wrongdoings against humanity. “There’s only so many times you can kick a dog before it turns vicious. (Julian) ”
