Breaking Down Walls

A poem about my continuous healing journey.

“The walls we build around us to keep sadness out also keeps out the joy.” -Jim Rohn

As more and more dots connect, I visualize past walls showering my insides, like zigging and zagging concrete mazes, around the steeple of my heart.

Scattered like scars, these walls resembled the intricacies of veins, but instead of pumping blood, these stone-cold borders– designed to protect, began sucking the life out of me, until I had no choice but to lose myself, or break them open.

Begrudgingly, I chose the latter.

The truth is, smashing concrete has become the sweetest and most painful experience of my being.

(Part of my journey is not sugarcoating it any other way.)

Was/is the destruction worth it? For me, yes, for the peace –under surrender– is the most empowerment ever encountered,

and — the serenity after the storm — unchained my fractured soul.

And although walls still, pop up, my ability to deal with them has improved tenfold. For me, that progress MORE THAN justifies the unraveling.

Today, my life is much more manageable, for beyond the darkened tunnels and walled staircases, beyond the shame-filled fortresses, a light –once hidden under ashes, rubble, and soot– shines brighter than colliding galaxies ever could.

So, I have found there’s no greater liberation than feeling the inner vibrations of numerous walls tumbling down, like moon-pulled tides crashing to shore.

Through tearing down those walls… Extricating myself from the debilitating waves of fear, I have been led to a true belief in bliss.
