Bombard

A Poem

Photo by Nikolas Noonan on Unsplash

Duck and cover, the debris is constant around here

I don’t know whether to stop

drop and roll

or head into the hallway, grab a book, and wait for the sky to fall

like in grade school tornado drills because it was the general idea that

a heavy book placed over one’s head while kneeling, prayer like, to a purple locker

was somehow going to protect us in a

Michigan twister,

or maybe I could head into a basement somewhere, huddled and listening for the

siren to stop, for the all clear but the thing is — it’s constant sirens up in here,

one for fire, one for rain, one for earthquakes and hurricanes

in me, of me, all me, around me —

it would appear for now, I am bombarded.
