Summary

The article argues for the blocking of AI-assisted writers on Medium to preserve the integrity of human writing and ensure fair compensation for genuine writers.

Abstract

The author of the article expresses a strong stance against the use of AI-assisted writing tools on Medium, highlighting the negative impact these tools have on the platform's writing community. The piece underscores the author's initial ignorance of AI content's prevalence on Medium and the subsequent realization and disdain for such content. It is pointed out that AI-assisted writers are driven by profit rather than a passion for writing, producing subpar content that dilutes the quality of writing on the platform. The article also explains the financial implications of AI content, as it competes for a share of the fixed subscription pool that real writers depend on for income. The author emphasizes the importance of blocking these 'bot' accounts to maintain the value of human-written stories and to prevent the devaluation of genuine writers' earnings. A call to action is made for readers to support human intelligence in writing by subscribing to authentic authors and considering contributing to a community that values concise, insightful stories.

This Is Why You Should Block AI Assisted Writers Without Mercy

Spoiler alert: it makes no sense, any other way…

I must confess: it took me a long time to notice AI-assisted writing and connect the dots between our ever-evolving world and the beautiful fabric of our collective tapestries.

However, when I started paying close attention, it came all too easily — and that was when I discovered that the amount of AI content on Medium (not stories) is more than I had imagined, prior.

At that time too, I developed a passionate hatred for it…why would anyone even try it?

The ‘Writers’ Who Will Rather NOT Write

Medium is the home of writing and writers on the internet — from the beginners (who make $0 per annum) to the professionals (making $100,000 + yearly with their crafts, either in part or full-time capacity).

It makes sense to expect that everyone who is found here is a writer and committed to the craft.

Unfortunately, that isn’t the case…these AI-assisted writers are simply interested in a quick buck and nothing more — the fine details of writing hold zero appeal for them.

Powered with selfishness, inspired by laziness, and amply supported by artificial intelligence, they churn out soulless pieces of junk, undermining our collective intelligence as human writers.

Hardly using their real names and instead preferring some name crafted with the very help of AI, it is about the money for them, nothing else — and it doesn’t matter to them how that money is earned.

Why Blocking Those ‘Bot’ Accounts Matter…

While I’m not privy to the fine art of how writer’s earnings are calculated here, I have a general idea of how the pool model works, when powered by subscriptions as is the case with Medium.

The subscriptions we pay as users here are fairly fixed — and it is from that pool that earnings are allotted.

Much like the KDP Select Global Fund, it is the pot from which each writer’s payout comes out from.

Now, more bot-powered accounts mean more money being drawn from that fixed ‘fund’…

It means, competition for reads with artificial intelligence…

And, ultimately, not blocking such accounts means tacitly supporting these less-than-honest folks and earning peanuts as a direct consequence of non-action!

Remember, if no one reads or interacts with such accounts, they’ll be forced to look elsewhere…they are only encouraged to keep trying because we don’t bother much with removing them from the game.

A Bold Step…

Victoria Kjos recently started compiling a list of authors here she has confirmed DON’T use AI for their works.

It is a bold step, forward.
